But with the loss, Chicago has now dropped three games in a row and four of their last five overall. They will aim to upset the run line once again on Tuesday in Toronto.
The Blue Jays snapped a three-game skid with their Monday victory. But they are still mired in a slump as they’ve dropped three of their past five contests.

Chicago Cubs at Toronto Blue Jays Odds
Teams | Moneyline | Total | Run Line |
Cubs | +185 | O/8 | +1.5 |
Blue Jays | -202 | U/8 | -1.5 |
The Blue Jays are the clear home favorites. They are one of the better teams in baseball despite trailing the New York Yankees in the AL East. And the home field certainly helps matters, as shown with the walk-off on Tuesday.
But the Cubs have the ability to upset the odds. They are 67-62 against the run line on the season and have been a force as the underdog. In fact, they are a magnificent 55-38 when playing against the run line as an underdog in 2022.
So bettors cannot afford to make the mistake of automatically rolling with Toronto just because they are the better team on the run line. The Cubs have been one of the better teams in that department on the season despite their lackluster straight-up results.
So which team should you place your money on?

Chicago Cubs at Toronto Blue Jays Betting Preview
Chicago Cubs Preview
The Cubs covered the run line on Tuesday. But on paper, they are expected to lose in each game this series. But do they have any shot of pulling off a win?
As discussed earlier, the Cubs have lost four of their last five games overall. But two of those games were separated by two runs or less. So they are playing fairly competitive baseball.
Their pitching has been the main issue for their struggles as of late. In each of their last four losses, Chicago has surrendered at least five runs. As a result, the offense is forced to pick up the slack.
On the season, the Cubs are near the bottom of MLB in team ERA, WHIP, and home runs allowed, But the offense has been closer to league average. Chicago’s offense is 19th in batting average, 17th in OBP, 15th in slugging percentage, 21st in runs scored, and 16th in home runs.
Those numbers are not going to knock you off your feet. But they aren’t terrible.
Marcus Stroman (3-6, 4.10) is the scheduled starter for the Cubs on Tuesday. He’s endured a difficult season but will look to lead his team to a win in this game.
Toronto Blue Jays Preview
For Toronto, they have not exactly played their best brand of baseball as of late. But Toronto firmly believes they are capable of taking care of business against Chicago.
The Blue Jays‘ powerful offense will try to tee off Marcus Stroman and lead the team to the win. Their offense is ranked third in batting average, fifth in OBP, fourth in slugging percentage, seventh in runs scored, and ninth in home runs.
Toronto features one of MLB’s best offenses. With Vladimir Guerrero Jr leading the charge, the bats are a force to be reckoned with.
But the pitching has question marks.
Toronto is just 16th in team ERA, 13th in WHIP, 26th in home runs allowed, and 21st in batting average against. They have pitched at a decent level, but there is no denying the fact that the offense has shouldered the burden in 2022.
One pitcher who has fared well is Kevin Gausman. Gausman (9-9, 3.15) is the probable starter for Tuesday’s ball game. He shouldn’t face too much trouble against the Blue Jays lineup.
Injury Report
For the Cubs, Patrick Wisdom was recently placed on the 10-day IL with a sprained finger. Meanwhile, pitchers Wade Miley, Steven Brault, and Keegan Thompson are currently on the 15-day IL.
They have a number of other players on the 60-day IL.
For the Blue Jays, they are most healthy. Players such as Julian Merryweather and Hyun-Jin Ryu have been injured for quite some time. But for the most part, Toronto is ready to roll from a health standpoint.
Chicago Cubs at Toronto Blue Jays Picks and Predictions
So who is going to cover the run line? Who is going to win?
The Blue Jays are going to win this game. Kevin Gausman is in the midst of a quality 2022 campaign, while Marcus Stroman has displayed inconsistency throughout the year.
But can the Cubs cover the run line like they did Monday? It is certainly possible. But I am rolling with Chicago as the run line pick.
Their offense should be able to provide Gausman with enough run support to earn a convincing win.
The Pick:
Take the Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 with your betting selection in this Tuesday night Interleague ball game.
