Yankees Losing Ground
Monday’s loss to the Angels marks the third straight loss for the Yankees. The end of August while in a playoff race is not an ideal time to drop three straight. Luckily for the Yanks, those are the only three games they’ve lost in their last 10.
The Yankees are 7 games behind the Rays in the AL East. They currently have a 2 game lead over Boston for the first AL Wild Card spot. The Athletics and Blue Jays aren’t far behind though, the Yankees can’t afford to lose many games down the stretch.
Starting pitcher Jameson Taillon hasn’t made it out of the 5th inning in his last three starts. A trend that New York needs him to end right now. Taillon has a 4.18 ERA on the season.
Injuries and Setbacks Slow Down the Angels
Another setback for Mike Trout will keep the best p[layer in baseball out of the game for a bit longer. Fortunately for the Angels, they also have the guy who’s widely considered the most talented player in the game in Shohei Ohtani as well.
Ohtani’s bat has been red-hot, and while he won’t pitch on Tuesday, he will most certainly bat. Ohtani has been an absolute cheat code this season with 42 homeruns, 90 RBIs, 86 runs scored, and 20 steals. Those stats look completely made up.
The Angels are 13.5 games behind the Astros in the NL West with almost no hope of catching them. They are 9.5 games behind Boston for the second wild cards spot, so that is what they will set their sites on.
Jaime Barria hasn’t had a quality start since August 7th against the Dodgers. The Angels need that to end today if they want to steal a second win for the Yankees.
Yankees Fight Back
While Taillon isn’t exactly who you want on the mound in a game you need to win, he’s what you’ve got. The Yankees didn’t fare well with Kluber on the mound either.
We don’t believe there is a chance that the Yankees drop 4 straight games. They caught a massive break with Ohtani skipping a start. We like the Yankees on the run line in this one. They get back on track and cover the -1.5 on Tuesday.
