The San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies will be locking horns in a crucial Game-3 affair in Philadelphia on Friday. We should be in for a close and thrilling MLB match!

The Phillies stole Game 1 on the road, but the Padres roared back with a come-from-behind Game 2 victory to even out the NLCS at two games apiece. Game 3 will swing the momentum of the NLCS firmly in one team’s direction, heightening the importance of this Friday night affair.

Both San Diego and Philadelphia are content with their position at the moment. Nevertheless, they both understand the value that winning Game 3 holds.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:37 PM EST at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA.

Betting Backdrops per Team

San Diego Padres Overview:

The Padres trailed early in Game 2. But they came back to win outright and cover the run line. It was an impressive effort from San Diego, who desperately needed to win Game 2. Heading to Philadelphia down 2-0 in the series would have been a worst-case scenario.

  •  The San Diego Padres are 79-92 against the run line this year.
  • The Padres are 47-39 against the run line when playing on the road.
  • San Diego is 45-71 against the run line when playing as a favorite.
  • They are 21-25 against the run line as an away favorite this season.

The Padres are favored to win this ball game on the road. Their road status made many believe Philadelphia would be favored in the game, but the pitching matchup swings this contest toward San Diego.

Joe Musgrove will get the ball for the Padres in Game 3. Musgrove has displayed the ability to excel despite the circumstances occurring thus far in the MLB Playoffs… and he has certainly dealt with some odd circumstances.

The right-hander was effective throughout the 2022 campaign and has been an instrumental piece to the puzzle for San Diego.

The Padres’ pitching ranks 11th in team ERA and ninth in WHIP. Musgrove’s presence obviously is beneficial for the Padres. However, the bullpen has been tremendous for San Diego as well.

Unless Musgrove works the entire game, which isn’t out of the realm of possibility, the Padres will turn to the bullpen at some point. Bob Melvin fully trusts his relief core and will have no problem handing them the baseball.

Offensively, San Diego ranks 15th in batting average, eighth in OBP, 22nd in slugging percentage, 13th in runs scored, and 21st in home runs. Manny Machado and Juan Soto highlight the offense, but they also have a decent amount of depth throughout their lineup.

San Diego will look to cover the run line while taking care of business to win Game 3.

Philadelphia Phillies Overview:

The Phillies blew a lead in Game 2 and now head home all knotted up at one with San Diego. But Philadelphia has to feel content after splitting wins on the road.

Although they may technically be listed as the underdog, the Phillies’ home crowd will provide them with a leg up in Game 3.

  • The Philadelphia Phillies are 87-83 against the run line this year.
  • The Phillies are 41-42 against the run line when playing at home.
  • Philadelphia is 38-23 against the run line when playing as an underdog.
  • They are 10-6 against the run line as a home underdog this season.

The Phillies are listed as an underdog at home. This is mainly a product of the fact that they are rolling with Ranger Suarez on the mound against Joe Musgrove.

But Suarez has held his own for Philadelphia. Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola rightfully deserve the praise in this Phillies’ rotation, but Suarez makes for an excellent number three option in the rotation.

Philadelphia’s pitching staff ranks 17th in ERA and 14th in WHIP overall. They have dealt with their fair share of inconsistency.

In the end, the offense is the backbone of this ball club. Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber have led the Phillies to rankings of eighth in batting average, ninth in OBP, sixth in slugging percentage, seventh in runs scored, and sixth in home runs.

The Phillies lineup will try to figure out Joe Musgrove on Friday night.

San Diego Padres at Philadelphia Phillies: Odds & Picks

The Padres are narrow road favorites over the Phillies. Covering the run line in Philadelphia will be a challenge for two main reasons.

First off, Philadelphia’s powerful lineup will keep them in the game. One big swing with runners on base has the potential to completely ruin a run line bet.

And the other reason is the home crowd. Philadelphia has passionate fans that will look to use their voices to give the team a shot of adrenaline.

The Phillies feature no shortage of upset potential.

Can Philadelphia upset the odds at home?

I love taking the Phillies on the run line. Ranger Suarez should be able to keep the team in the game while the offense works against Joe Musgrove. This Game 3 affair projects to be competitive throughout, which will be a good thing for the Phillies as underdogs.

Go ahead and roll with the Philadelphia Phillies +1.5 on the run line in Game 3 of the NLCS. For more MLB odds, MLB team stats, MLB betting lines, and more, check us out at the links below.
