Las Vegas Raiders at New York Giants Betting Preview
It’s somewhat amazing that the Raiders are 5-2 and atop the AFC West, considering they’ve already had to deal with a midseason coaching change after old Jon Gruden emails surfaced. Now Las Vegas is dealing with more issues ahead of the NFL week 9 NFL picks after last year’s #1 draft pick Henry Ruggs was dismissed from the team following his involvement in a fatal DUI crash.
Despite all the media attention on Las Vegas yet again, sportsbooks aren’t deterred as they’ve made the Raiders -3 point favorites on the betting lines in a visit to the Giants. New York is on a short week, but they looked good even in defeat, falling 20-17 at Kansas City on Monday night.

Raiders Moving On
Las Vegas has the #2 passing offense in the NFL (307.9 ypg), but that attack takes a big hit with the loss of Ruggs, who was leading the team with 469 yards receiving. Ruggs has at least a 48-yard reception in three of the last six games, so he really had the ability to stretch opposing defenses.
The betting lines still have Las Vegas favored on Sunday regardless, so QB Derek Carr will simply need to find his next man up. Carr has thrown 320+ yards in five of seven games this season and has developed a rapport with Hunter Renfrow, who has 399 yards receiving on the year.
Another reason Las Vegas is favored even while traveling to an early East Coast game is that they are coming off their bye week. There’s a chance the idle week ruined the Raiders’ momentum as they had won two straight and scored 32+ in both games, but the downtime will give time for TE Darren Waller (probable) to heal from an ankle injury.
Close Doesn’t Count for Giants
New York had a moral victory on Monday night in falling by just 3 points at Arrowhead Stadium as +10.5 underdogs on the betting lines. The Giants were up 17-14 in the 4th quarter in that game, and although the defense only allowed two FGs down the stretch, KC still escaped with the win.
Having the short turnaround ahead of this week’s NFL picks isn’t ideal for the Giants’ defense, especially with a matchup against another high-powered offense in the Raiders. New York held Patrick Mahomes to a 29/46 night with 275 yards and 1TD/1INT.
Another thing about the short turnaround for the Giants is that they’re on five days off while the Raiders are simultaneously coming off a bye week. Can New York keep the momentum going that was built off a 25-3 over the Panthers in week seven and a close loss to KC on Monday night?
The Giants may have some value on the betting lines in this game as New York did look good in their last home game beating Carolina by 22 points. NYG’s defense obviously looked solid in that game while holding the Panthers to 173 total yards.
Raiders at Giants NFL Picks
Sportsbooks should prepare for a heavy dose of the public liking the Raiders betting odds as -2.5 road favorites. Las Vegas is a 1st place team in the rough and tumble AFC West, and meanwhile, the 2-6 Giants have basically been eliminated from postseason contention while trailing the 6-1 Cowboys in the division.
New York having a short turnaround doesn’t help things, especially with the Raiders coming off a bye. Las Vegas did have some distractions this week, but it’s something they’re getting used to.
