Washington Commanders at Chicago Bears: Betting Previews
The Bears are the general favorite for this game, but a couple of places have this matchup listed as a pick ’em contest, which rules out the spread and makes it a moneyline-only bet.
Assuming Chicago is the favorite for your sportsbook, the Bears are 0-0-1 against the spread when playing as a favorite. Meanwhile, the Commanders are 0-3 against the spread as an underdog.
Chicago certainly has the advantage, but they have battled struggles of their own. On the other hand, this Commanders team has been extremely bad in 2022.
Is there any chance of Washington pulling off the upset?
Betting on Washington Commanders
Washington made things interesting in their recent 21-17 loss against the Titans. Carson Wentz enjoyed one of his better performances of the season, going 25-38 through the air with 359 passing yards and a pair of TDs.
Running back Brian Robinson made his return after getting shot in the leg prior to the season. The fact that he’s back already is nothing short of incredible. He recorded 22 rushing yards on nine attempts in the game.
Receiver Dyami Brown finished with just two receptions, but tallied 105 receiving yards and two touchdowns for the Commanders.
Washington was unable to come in clutch when it mattered, and suffered a difficult 4-point loss. But they played well enough to give themselves a chance at winning, a rarity in 2022.
The Commanders rank 26th in points per game, 13th in total yards per game, fifth in passing yards per game, 28th in rushing yards per game, and eighth in time of possession per game.
Defensively, they are 26th in points allowed per game, 17th in total yards against per game, seventh in sacks, and 27th in interceptions.
Their fairly impressive passing numbers are surprising, although the 2022 campaign has mostly been a forgettable one from a statistical and record standpoint.
Washington is hoping to earn their second victory of the season in Chicago against the Bears.
Betting on Chicago Bears
The Bears may be favored by most sportsbooks for Thursday’s game, but they are certainly far from being a heavy favorite.
Chicago was most recently defeated by the Vikings 29-22.
Justin Fields went 15-21 through the air with 208 passing yards and one touchdown. Fields also led the team in rushing yards with a mark of 47.
Not only did the Bears’ defense not play great, but it truly came up short. They surrendered 29 points in the loss. It was a lackluster effort, to say the least.
The Bears’ defense is now ranked 15 in points surrendered per game, 22nd in total yards surrendered per game, 25th in sacks, and 10th in interceptions.
Offensively, they are 27th in points per game, 32nd in total yards per game, 32nd in passing yards per game, fifth in rushing yards per game, and 31st in time of possession per game.
Chicago’s offense needs to step it up sooner rather than later. Their shortcomings have been a consistent issue, especially in the passing attack.
Nevertheless, Chicago expects to win Thursday’s game against the underwhelming Commanders.
Washington Commanders at Chicago Bears: Picks & Predictions
But which team should you roll with, in this Commanders at Bears NFL Picks conundrum? Can the Commanders upset the odds, or will the Bears take care of business at their home field?
With a 1-point spread at most, the team you roll with will likely have to win the game outright.
And Chicago is the better team… by a thin margin. The Bears’ offense should be able to find a minor spark against Washington while their defense keeps the Commanders’ offense in check.
We shouldn’t expect a high-scoring affair by any means, while there may be a smattering of turnovers and punts. Still, the Bears are the pick to click on Thursday Night Football.
The Picks:
- Go ahead and take the Chicago Bears as your moneyline (straight-up) betting selection for this game.
- Take the under on the implied point total in this one.
- Roll with the Chicago Bears -7 with your Thursday Night Football spread betting selection.
