Odds, Picks and Predictions

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders will square off in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday to kick off the football season. Both of these teams will look to get their season started on the right note despite this being just an exhibition.

The Jaguars finished in last place in the AFC South. Their 3-14 record was obviously far from impressive. But this is a team slowly developing talent. They could be in store for a rebound season in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Raiders made a playoff run last year. Las Vegas finished with a 10-7 record, which placed them behind the Chiefs in the AFC West. But they made the playoffs as a Wild Card team.

This Hall of Fame Game won’t feature the best players on both sides. But it should be entertaining nonetheless.

The kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST on Thursday, August 4th, at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, OH.

Raiders-139O/30.5+2.5
Jaguars+119U/30.5-2.5

The Raiders enter play as the clear favorites. Las Vegas is fresh off of a strong overall campaign and expects to be even better in 2022.

The over/under will be difficult to bet on in this one. There is no telling how both of these offenses will play out of the gate. But there certainly may be some rust on both sides.

At the same time, there may be extra motivation to play well. A lot of these young players are just trying to make the team. So they want to impress while they have the chance.

In the end, I would recommend taking the under on the listed total of 30 points.

As for the spread, Las Vegas is given a 2.5-point advantage by BetOnline. If you roll with the Raiders on the moneyline, you might as well take them on the spread as well. The odds of them winning by two points or less are slim.

So my best advice would be to make your moneyline and spread picks the same. But which team should you place those bets on? Who is going to come out on top in the Canton Hall of Fame Game?

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Las Vegas Raiders Betting Preview

Jacksonville Jaguars Preview

So can the Jaguars upset the odds in this contest? Jacksonville finished with the worst record in football last year. They narrowly finished behind the Lions, who had a 3-13-1 record, while the Jags were 3-14.

In the end, most people expect Jacksonville to struggle once again this year. But Trevor Lawrence might be ready to break out. The QB finished the 2021 season with an impressive performance and displayed plenty of confidence.

If Lawrence can find his stride, this is a team that could surprise some people. Obviously, they still have a number of holes on offense and defense. And they likely won’t be a playoff contender.

But bettors should pay attention to the Jaguars. Because they are so underwhelming, they will be the underdogs in most games they play. But they will also feature upset potential, which could pay huge dividends for bettors.

However, Lawrence won’t suit up for this game. Travis Etienne also won’t play. So the Jaguars’ lack of regular offensive players will limit their overall production.

Las Vegas Raiders Preview

The Raiders likely won’t trot out all of their best players. Derek Carr didn’t even play during the last preseason.

With that being said, they may want Carr to get some preseason experience throwing to Davante Adams. But it remains to be seen if they will play on Thursday. But they are expected to utilize three different quarterbacks in the contest.

But the Raiders are the favorites in this game. However, they may play an extremely conservative brand of football. Josh McDaniels has emphasized avoiding penalties at all costs.

So the Jaguars may be able to make some offensive plays if Las Vegas enters with an overly conservative defensive game plan.

The Raiders are a difficult team to be fully confident in as a favorite in this game. During a regular season affair, that would surely be a different story. But it is hard to know what the offense and defense are going to do on Thursday.

As a result, a number of bettors are taking the Jaguars as the underdog pick. But the Raiders are the overall more talented team. And they will want to do everything in their power to start their year off with a victory.

Injury Report

For the Jaguars, James Robinson is questionable for Week 1 with an Achilles injury. He will not play on Thursday in this game.

Jamal Agnew is also questionable for the first week of the season with a hip ailment.

Defensive end Jordan Smith is out indefinitely with an undisclosed injury. His timetable is unclear at the moment.

Linebackers Micah Kiser and Kyle Fackrell are both currently on the injured reserve. Kiser is dealing with a knee injury, while Fackrell’s ailment is undisclosed.

Defensive tackles Bilal Nichols and Jonathan Hankins are questionable for Week 1. They are also both dealing with knee injuries.

Wide receiver Dillon Stoner is questionable for Week 1 as well, while Trayvon Mullen is battling a foot ailment.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Las Vegas Raiders Picks and Predictions

So who wins this game? Which team should you roll with?

So this is a 50/50 guess. Both sides are playing with unproven talent who want to impress their coaches. It will likely be a gritty, albeit sloppy game.

But go ahead and roll with the Raiders as the favorites on Thursday.

The Pick:

Roll with the Las Vegas Raiders -1.5 in this Thursday night game.
