Nebraska Cornhuskers at Northwestern Wildcats Odds, Picks and Predictions
The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Northwestern Wildcats will prepare to face off in a Saturday night NCAAF affair.
Neither Nebraska nor Northwestern enjoyed much success last year. In fact, both the Cornhuskers and Wildcats ended the season on a six-game losing streak in 2021. They are certainly ready to move on from their poor endings to last season in this game.
The Cornhuskers and Wildcats are also ready for better overall seasons in 2022. Both have added a decent amount of talent and could be in store for positive progression.
One interesting aspect of this game is that it will be played in Ireland. It is a part of the Aer Lingus College Football Series. This projects to be an exciting contest between these two teams.
Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, August 27th, 2022, at 12:30 PM EST at Lansdowne Road. We should be in for an exciting bout!

Betting on Northwestern Wildcats
Northwestern endured a down season in 2021. Their losing streak to end the year left a bad taste in their mounts. So there is going to be extra motivation to get 2022 started off with a win.
However, they are underdogs entering the game. And as discussed in the betting trends, they are just 2-10 against Big 10 conference opponents in their past 12 games.
But they are 5-2 against the spread in their past seven August games, for what that’s worth. People may overlook that statistic, but that does tell us that the Wildcats tend to play an inspired brand of football when opening a season.
And with a 13-point spread according to the majority of sportsbooks, Northwestern certainly has a chance of covering once again here in this August matchup.
The Wildcats believe they can win on Saturday. Cornerback A.J. Hampton revealed the team’s mentality heading into this game, per CBS News.
“It’s cool just to be able to experience it. I mean, obviously, it’s a business trip. We’re going there to win. All the other stuff will situate itself out, but it’s just cool. It’s kind of like a little bonus. Obviously, we’re locked in and stuff, but the scenery – it’s a peace of mind for me.”
Playing this game in Ireland will be a change of pace for both sides.
There won’t be any true home-field advantage, and both Nebraska and Northwestern will be confident they can win. This bodes well for the Wildcats, as the score could end up being far more competitive than anticipated.
Betting on Nebraska Cornhuskers
The Nebraska Cornhuskers enter the weekend as the clear favorites for this game. Things did not go the way they planned last year, but this is still a talented team prepared to turn things around in 2022.
However, Nebraska is 0-5 in their last five matchups against Big 10 opponents. Their struggles in the conference have to make one wonder if they will be able to cover the lofty spread set for them.
But in a similar fashion to Northwestern, the Cornhuskers have been impressive to start the season as of late. They are 11-1 straight up over their past August 12th matchups and 18-2 over their past 20 Week 1 games. Nebraska tends to start their seasons with energy and confidence, which could lead to a convincing victory.
The Northwestern defense will be the key to their success this year. Defensive coordinator Erik Chinander recently commented on the defensive team’s effort ahead of Week 1, per MSN.
“I want to see if these guys are who I think they are,” he said. “By that I mean, will they play as hard as they have, can they step it up a bit? I want to see big-time effort. … Some of these guys are starting their first game, so we’ll see how they operate. I thought they came out and practiced well today,” he said. “They were ready to go. The schedule’s been great. The people have been doing an unbelievable job getting us all the accommodations we need. And our people back home did a great job with setting our kids up for success over here.”
His comments are noteworthy for bettors. If the defense is ready to roll, there is a strong chance that Nebraska will cover the spread on Saturday.
Nebraska Cornhuskers at Northwestern Wildcats Picks and Predictions
This should be an entertaining matchup. I expect both teams to open the game with plenty of energy. This will be competitive through the first portion of the game.
But Nebraska’s aforementioned defense will likely cause havoc and produce turnovers which should lead to the Cornhusker pulling away. As long as Nebraska’s offense doesn’t cough up the football, the Cornhuskers will cover this 13-point spread in the end.
With all of that being said, this game will be exciting. Playing in Ireland is a special opportunity, and neither side will take it for granted. But Nebraska is simply the more talented team, and it will show on Saturday.
