Michigan State Spartans at Washington Huskies Betting Preview
Michigan State Spartans Preview
Michigan State will be a popular upset pick in this one. The Spartans are 1-0-1 ATS to kick off the year. They have performed well from a betting perspective, even with the tie.
They will have no shortage of momentum heading into this game, given their 52-0 victory over Akron last week.
Quarterback Payton Thorne went 18-28 with 212 passing yards. He added a pair of interceptions and no touchdowns. Fortunately for Michigan State, they featured an elite running game last week.
Jalen Berger rushed for 107 yards with three touchdowns on 17 total rushes. Jarek Brousard added 15 rushes for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
The Akron defense had no answer whatsoever for the Spartans’ rushing attack. It is rare to see two running backs post jaw-dropping performances like Berger and Brousard did.
The Michigan State defense was spectacular as well, and they did not let up even in the fourth quarter. They shutout Akron while tacking on five sacks for good measure.
This was a complete demolition in every sense of the word.
Michigan State will attempt to carry the momentum from their convincing win into this contest with Washington.
Washington Huskies Preview
The Huskies are 2-0 ATS to open the season. If they win this game, they will also likely move to 3-0 on the spread, given the narrow spread mark for this Week 3 affair.
Washington is also fresh off of a blowout win. They defeated Portland State by a final score of 52-6.
QB Michael Penix Jr. recorded 337 passing yards and two touchdowns on an efficient 20-27 passing.
Wayne Taulapapa, Cameron Davis, and Richard Newton combined for an incredible 223 rushing yards. The trio also produced three touchdowns in the win.
Receivers Jalen McMillan and Giles Jackson both tallied over 100 receiving yards in the game as well.
This was truly an offensive masterpiece. And the defense was excellent as well. They finished four sacks while allowing just six points.
Washington may have some trouble with Michigan State. Their rushing attack has the potential to provide the Huskies’ defense with some issues. It will be interesting to see how Washington’s defense holds up on Saturday.
Injury Report
For Michigan State, linebacker Darius Snow is out for the season. Safety Xavier Henderson is questionable for the remainder of the year. Those are two massive blows for the Spartans’ defense.
Wide Receiver Jayden Reed is questionable for Week 3’s matchup due to a knee ailment.
For Washington, linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio and safety Vincent Nunley have ruled out for Week 3.
Both of these defenses have notable injuries, which evens the playing field in a sense.
Michigan State Spartans at Washington Huskies Picks and Predictions
Which team should you roll with? Can the Michigan State Spartans upset the odds on the road, or will the Washington Huskies get the job done in front of their home faithful?
There is no denying the fact that this could end up being one of the most competitive and exciting games of the week. Both offenses are capable of posting big numbers, but the defenses do a nice job pressuring the opposing quarterback.
The end result may be decided by the running game on both sides. Whichever team finds more success in the ground game may be in line to pull out the win on Saturday.
However, quarterback Payton Thorne has the talent to lead Michigan State to a victory. He is destined to rebound following last week’s subpar effort under center.
If Thorne plays well and the defense holds up just enough, the Spartans will pull off the upset in Washington and advance to 3-0 on the season.
