Meanwhile, BYU’s home opener was not quite as lopsided. However, they still won by a landslide. The Cougars earned a 50-21 victory over South Florida. They are hoping to carry the momentum from that win into this matchup with Baylor.
This game represents the first real challenge for both Baylor and BYU of the season.

Baylor vs. Brigham is going to be a great game. It is difficult to imagine this turning into a rout. However, Baylor crushed BYU last year.

Baylor enjoyed a successful season in the Big 12 a season ago. They lost some pieces but still have high hopes for the 2022 campaign. They brought in some interesting young players and still feature enough veteran leadership to have a solid year.
The biggest question for Baylor is will they be able to make big plays. They have a strong offensive line, and the defense is more than capable of holding its own.
But their question marks on offense, with the exception of the offense line, leave some room for concern. And defensively, the secondary has a few question marks as well. There is no guarantee that they are going to get that crucial late-game interception or a go-ahead touchdown in the final seconds.
Nevertheless, the Bears are going to play a fundamental brand of football and power their way to a competitive season. It may not always be pretty, but the Bears coaching staff is impressive and will help this team be alright in the long run.

The Cougars also posted a good 2021 season. They have developed a quality core of players and reportedly have 19 returning players from last year.
The Cougars have an advantage from a chemistry standpoint. Their ability to develop that core should lead to comfortability. The Cougars could realistically be even better in 2022 than last year.
And that is saying something because they looked sharp in 2021.
The offense is emerging with a good passing attack and decent run game. Their offense was not always consistent last season, but it displayed signs of potential. It might be on the verge of coming together this year.
The defense is reliable. It also is not spectacular, but they do have a few stars who are going to lead the charge. As a result, we can expect good production from BYU’s defensive unit in 2022.
But even with their strong season last year, they were defeated by Baylor. And the Cougars are bringing back a number of players but have not made a whole lot of major additions. They are going to count on player improvements to win this contest.
As aforementioned, they have a number of players with loads of potential. So relying on the basic improvement method is not a bad strategy. It will be intriguing to see how BYU fares in this game.

For the Bears, they have no reported injuries at the moment.
For BYU, a pair of wide receivers were listed on their injury report. Puka Nacua and Gunner Romney are questionable heading into this matchup. The Bears certainly hope both receivers can play against Baylor.

This genuinely may be the best game in Week 2. From a competitive standpoint, it is difficult to beat this matchup. But should you place your money on Baylor or BYU in Utah?
There is no question that betting on this game will be hard. It comes down to whether or not you trust BYU’s improvement. They are returning so many players that they simply need everyone to be better.
We know that the Bears made some nice additions but lost some star power. They have some question marks, but we know what to expect.
However, BYU is a wild card. I expect the Cougars to play much better than they did against Baylor a season ago. However, this Bears team is well coached, and their defense does just enough to cause havoc.
As long as the offense holds up its end of the bargain, Baylor will upset the odds and ultimately win the game.
