#1 Odds to Win AL Rookie of the Year | Randy Arozarena (-165)
When looking at the odds to win most of the MLB Awards in 2021, it seems like there is a disclaimer that you must have played for the St. Louis Cardinals organization to be considered. Add AL ROTY favorite, Randy Arozarena, to the list of former Cardinals’ prospects that could win an award this season. One of three former Cardinals that are the top 3 in odds to win the AL or NL ROTY.
The 2020 MLB Postseason hero is once again putting up fantastic members as he was able to keep his rookie designation for the 2021 season. The 2020 ALCS MVP has put up 3.5 bWAR in the 2021 season, after posting 1.1 bWAR in only 76 plate appearances a season ago.
In only 91 postseason plate appearances, Arozarena has 10 home runs and 14 RBI, and an OPS of 1.219. Fortunately for the other ROTY candidates, the 2020 postseason has no bearing on the award.
Arozarena is slashing .274/.355/.464 with an .818 OPS in 2021. He has 48 XBH, 87 runs scored, 13 steals, and 63 RBI. His OPS+ is 132. The Tampa Bay outfielder has a bright future.
#2 Odds to Win AL Rookie of the Year | Adolis Garcia (+350)
Here we have another former Cardinals’ prospect. Either the Cardinals have the best scouting team in the league, or the worst talent evaluation department, maybe both. Jose Adolis Garcia comes in with the 2nd highest odds to win 2021 AL Rookie of the Year.
If this award was given mid-season, Garcia would have run away with it. His first few months of 2021 were Mike Trout-esque. While he has come back down to earth some since then, he is still putting up terrific rookie numbers down in Texas.
He has over 50 XBH, including 29 home runs. The young stud has driven in 79, scored 70 runs, and has 237 total bases in 2021. If Garcia can get his K rate down moving forward, the Rangers may have a young superstar on their hands.
Dark Horse Odds to Win AL Rookie of the Year | Wander Franco (+375)
Darkhorse or not, this is where your action should be. MLB’s number one prospect, Wander Franco, was called up on June 21st. After a tepid start, the future All-Star has exploded onto the scene posting 3.1 bWAR in only 271 plate appearances. Garcia’s bWAR is 3.2 in 546 plate appearances, and Arozarena’s 3.5 has come across 533.
Franco is on pace for a 6+ WAR season. Something that a lot of MLB superstars fail to do in their careers. Franco started making headlines in August with his absurd on-base streak that ended at 39 games. Only a hamstring injury could keep the young superstar off the base paths.
With +375 odds at BetOnline, Franco comes in with the 3rd highest odds to win 2021 AL Rookie of the Year. His current trip to the 10-day IL could cost him in ROTY voting, but it shouldn’t. At +375 odds, Franco SHOULD win 2021 AL Rookie of the Year.
