Odds, Picks and Predictions

  • The Houston Astros are 61-56 against the run line this season.
  • The Chicago White Sox are 52-64 against the run line this year.
  • The Astros are 31-29 against the run line when playing on the road.
  • The White Sox are 22-36 against the run line when playing at their home field.
  • Chicago is 24-17 against the run line as an underdog this year.
  • Houston is 50-52 against the run line as a favorite this season.

The Houston Astros (75-42 ) and Chicago White Sox (60-56 ) will square off in Game Three in a four-game series on Wednesday in Chicago.

The White Sox took care of business in both Games 1 Game 2. Chicago’s struggles have been well-documented this season, but they have played well against Houston to open the series. With the division in reach, expect the White Sox to keep playing extremely hard moving forward.

Houston obviously isn’t thrilled about being down 2-0 in the series. But they hold a comfortable 12-game lead in the AL West. So they don’t need to stress too much about it.

Nevertheless, the Astros will look to rebound on Wednesday and cover the run line.

The first pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST on Wednesday, August 17th, at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, IL.

Astros-139O/8-1.5
White Sox+129U/8+1.5

Despite dropping back-to-back games in Chicago, Houston remains the road favorite, according to most sportsbooks. I would not necessarily call them heavy favorites, but Houston is the team to beat on Wednesday.

The run line is set right at eight. The first two games have both failed to reach that number, and there is a quality pitching matchup on tap for tomorrow. So there is a good chance of the under hitting yet again.

Go ahead and take the under on the total with your bet.

So which team should you place your bets on? Can the Astros cover the run line as a favorite, or will the White Sox upset the odds at home once more?

Houston Astros at Chicago White Sox Betting Preview

Houston Astros Preview

The Astros will send LHP Framber Valdez (11-4, 2.73) to the mound for this Wednesday affair. Valez has been terrific in 2022. He’s been arguably the most important part other than Justin Verlander of this pitching staff.

Valdez doesn’t receive much attention with Verlander on the ball club. But he’s been spectacular and tends to give the Astros a chance of winning almost every time he takes the mound.

For the Astros, their offense is always liable to go off. Yes, they’ve struggled so far in the series. But counting out these bats is a mistake.

With that being said, I don’t expect them to post a crooked number. But look for Houston to provide enough run support to back Valdez on the mound.

The Astros need to win if they want to avoid a series loss on Wednesday. Losing this series wouldn’t be a huge deal since they hold a massive AL West lead, but they want to make sure they lock up the best record in the AL.

Chicago White Sox Preview

The White Sox are now just 1.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the AL Central. Chicago is 6-4 over the course of their last ten games and are starting to hit their stride, as they are on a five-game win streak heading into Wednesday.

The White Sox will send Michael Kopech (4-8, 3.18) to the mound for this game. Kopech has impressed this year and will aim to keep it going. The White Sox are worried about potential fatigue for the young right-hander this late into the season, but he’s held up so far.

Chicago can clinch a series victory by getting the job done in this contest. Look for a strong performance from the White Sox as they continue trending in the right direction.

Injury Report

The White Sox have been hit hard with injuries all season. Tim Anderson is currently on the 10-day IL with a torn finger tendon. Chicago is hopeful to have him back down the stretch, but his timetable is unclear.

Relievers Kyle Crick and Aaron Bummer are both on the 15-day IL. Right is dealing with elbow inflammation, while Bummer has a lat strain.

Chicago has struggled in 2022, and they don’t want to make excuses. However, it seems like almost everybody on this team has been injured at some point this season. They need to find a way to avoid injury and stay on the field.

The Astros aren’t dealing with a ton of injury concerns. However, it was recently announced that outfielder Michael Brantley will miss the remainder of the year after undergoing shoulder surgery. Trey Mancini is expected to see more outfield playing time as a result.

Jason Castro, Josh James, and Blake Taylor are all on the 60-day IL.

Houston has been able to maintain solid health for the most part. They will look to keep their stars on the field as the postseason draws near.

Houston Astros at Chicago White Sox Picks and Predictions

So which team is going to get the win on Wednesday?

I think this could end up being an impressive pitching matchup. Valdez and Kopech are very different pitchers, but both have found success this season.

But in the end, the Astros have been the more reliable option in 2022. They tend to find ways to win games. Look for Houston to bounce back to cover the run line in Chicago on Wednesday.

The Pick:

We should be in for an exciting match. Take the Houston Astros -1.5 with your betting selection in this Wednesday night American League matchup.
