The Padres took Game 1 of the series in convincing fashion, winning by a final score of 5-0. The Cardinals will look to rebound on Wednesday and take Game 2.
St. Louis has now dropped two consecutive games, while San Diego has won four consecutive games. The Padres are heating up at the right time without question.

St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres Odds
Teams | Moneyline | Total | Run Line |
St. Louis Cardinals | +114 | O/8 | +1.5 |
San Diego Padres | -124 | U/8 | -1.5 |
The Padres come into this game as the favorite. They are looking to wrap up an NL Wild Card spot but can’t afford to take anything for granted with four teams fighting for three spots in the NL Wild Card.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals should be able to clinch the NL Central very soon. They hold a commanding lead over the Brewers in the division.
Both the Cardinals and Padres are competitive teams, and this is one of the best series of the week. Wednesday’s game will go a long way in determining which team wins the series.

The Padres are the home favorites on Wednesday. San Diego is expected to win, but the Cardinals obviously have no shortage of upset potential.
Covering the run line will be quite the challenge for the Padres despite the recent run they have been on.
St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres Betting Preview
St. Louis Cardinals Preview
The Cardinals come into this game not playing their best baseball. But this is a St. Louis club that practically already has the NL Central locked up. Nevertheless, they will want to jump back into the win column sooner rather than later.
St. Louis is seventh in team batting average on the season, third in OBP, sixth in slugging percentage, fourth in runs scored, and seventh in home runs. Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado have led their strong offensive attack.
But veteran Albert Pujols has received the majority of headlines lately as he approaches the 700 mark for his career. The future Hall of Famer could become only the fourth player in MLB history to reach 700 in this series.
On the pitching side of the equation, the Cardinals rank ninth in ERA, 14th in WHIP, sixth in home runs allowed, and 17th in batting average against.
Adam Wainwright is still a reliable option in his early 40s, while Miles Mikolas has enjoyed a productive 2022 campaign. And speaking of Mikolas (11-12, 3.46), he will get the nod on Wednesday. St. Louis is hopeful that Mikolas can contain the Padres lineup and lead St. Louis to a big road win.
San Diego Padres Preview
The Padres are finally starting to get things going. They expected more after acquiring Juan Soto and Josh Bell. However, the Fernando Tatis Jr PED news seemingly took some wind out of their sails.
But San Diego is back and beginning to hit their stride. They fully believe they can win this series with the Cardinals.
On the season, the Padres are 18th in batting average, eighth in OBP, 21st in slugging percentage, 15th in runs scored, and 20th in home runs.
Manny Machado is in the MVP conversation. The star third baseman is slashing .296/.365/.531 with 29 home runs and 92 RBIs. He’s been the backbone of the offense all season long.
Pitching-wise, the Padres are 14th in team ERA, ninth in WHIP, 17th in home runs surrendered, and 11th in batting average against.
The Padres’ pitching has held strong for the most part this year. They had dealt with some issues, but this is a pitching staff that has the ability to take them a long way come playoff time.
Blake Snell (7-9, 3.85) is the probable starter for Wednesday’s game. Snell is inconsistent, but he features an impressive repertoire of pitches. He’s one of the most difficult pitchers to square up when he’s living in the strike zone… but control tends to be an issue for the left-hander.
Snell will aim to reel in his wildness and lead the Padres to a win on Wednesday.
Injury Report
Tyler O’Neil recently landed on the IL with a left hamstring injury. St. Louis hopes he can return ahead of the playoffs.
Jordan Hicks also was placed on the IL due to arm fatigue. But this could be more of a rest period for the right-hander.
The Padres are healthy for the most part.
St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres Picks and Predictions
Which of these teams should you place your money on for Wednesday’s game? Can the Cardinals upset the odds, or will the Padres cover at home?
St. Louis has done a tremendous job of avoiding losing streaks in 2022. Their all-around balance makes them one of the more consistent teams in baseball. As a result, I fully expect them to win on Wednesday, even with the Padres’ recent success.
The Pick:
Go ahead and take the St. Louis Cardinals +1.5 with your MLB betting selection in this Wednesday’s National League matchup.
