Baltimore comes into this game with a record of 37-67, and they are in the last place in the rugged AL East. The Orioles have gone 3-2 in their last five games, but it has been another long and disappointing season in Baltimore.
New York comes into this game with a record of 56-48, and it has been a bit of a disappointing season for the Yankees. This team is coming off of a sweep over the Miami Marlins, and they are right back in the Wild Card race in the American League.
In the series opener on Monday night, the Yankees are -260 over the Baltimore Orioles.
Orioles In Familiar Spoiler Role
Baltimore just can’t seem to figure things out, and they are in another year of a rebuild that just won’t end. The Orioles do have some interesting and talented pieces in the starting rotation, but there are still just too many holes on this roster.
The Orioles have a team ERA of 5.43 so far this season, and it has been the bullpen that is responsible for that poor of a number. Baltimore just can’t slow down the great offensive teams in the AL East, and this will be another example.
Jorge Lopez is set to make this start on Monday night and he has gone just 2-12 with a 6.19 ERA. Lopez has been one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball, and this could get ugly in a hurry.
Baltimore has been a better offensive team than New York this season, and they have scored more total runs. Trey Mancini leads the team with 19 home runs and 60 RBIs and Cedric Mullins has been putting up big numbers as well.
Yankees Need More Offense
The Yankees were not willing to sit around at the trade deadline and stay out of the playoff race, and they went out and made some deals. New York brought in Anthony Rizzo to play first base, and the former Cub has already belted a pair of home runs since joining the team.
Even though Rizzo has provided a spark, the Yankees still scored just ten total runs in that series against the Marlins. Playing at home should help, but New York has to find a way to be a much more explosive offensive team.
Newly acquired Andrew Heaney will be on the mound Monday night and the Yankees need him to deliver. If the offense is not going to produce, then it will be left up to the pitching staff.
Yankees Roll Over Rival
The Yankees all of a sudden look like a team ready to make a playoff push, especially when it comes to their offense. New York should have plenty of momentum after a sweep over the Miami Marlins, and returning home will provide a big boost as well.
Baltimore has played fairly well in the last few days, but this is still a team that is 30 games under the .500 mark. The Orioles won’t roll over and just allow the Yankees to roll over them, but they just don’t have enough talent to keep up.
Don’t worry about betting the money line in this game, as it will be decided by more than one run. Bet the New York Yankees -1.5 as they blow this game wide open in picking up another win.
