Dodgers are Hunting Giants
The National League West may be the best division in baseball. They have everything, great pitching, great hitting, and MVP candidates. They also have only had a single leader for quite some time in the San Francisco Giants, but the Dodgers are doing everything in their power to catch them.
The Dodgers have won 11 of their last 12 and have climbed the standing drastically in the last few weeks. The team’s newest additions are also fitting in rather nicely. Trea Turner, the utility infielder for the Dodgers, has been on a tear since joining the team. He has record a single hit in eight out of his last ten games, with five of the games being multiple hits.
Padres Pitching Woes
Bitten by the injury bug, the Padres have had to deal with their injured list all year. A team that is built to be a contender just can not seem to get their full roster on the field. Pitching has been one of their major issues with the team’s overall performance, with Paddack, Clevinger, and Arrieta all out for the rest of the season.
When the starters do pitch well, it seems there is no run support, or the bullpen blows it. This was the case in last night’s loss. Blake Snell was fantastic on the mound for the Padres, going eight innings and giving up just a single run. Unfortunately, the Padres could not find a way to score either, and they went on to take another loss in extras.
Pitching Matchup
The Los Angeles Dodgers will send Max Scherzer to the mound this evening. Scherzer has started four games for the Dodgers since being traded. He has a 3-0 record and has been almost untouchable.
On the bump for the Padres will be Yu Darvish. Making only his second start in August due to back soreness, the Padres hope he has gotten himself back in order and can be useful in their push for that second wildcard spot.
Dodgers Win
This team is a machine right now, and with their ace on the mound, he will keep them in motion. This game has the potential to be close if Darvish has his good stuff, but the Dodgers will still win.
