According to Betonline, the Giants enter as home favorites. San Francisco has played fairly well as of late but has work to do in the NL West. But they have fared better than the White Sox without question.

Chicago has labored this season and sits in third place in the AL Central. Sure, the Giants are third in the NL West. But San Francisco plays in a difficult division, and they own a winning record.

Meanwhile, the White Sox are under .500 and playing in a division they were favored to win by a long shot.

So it comes as no surprise that the Giants are the home favorites on Friday. But can they cover? Or will the White Sox upset the odds?

Chicago White Sox at San Francisco Giants Betting Preview

This projects to be an exciting interleague matchup. Let’s go ahead and break down both teams heading into this ball game.

Chicago White Sox Preview

The White Sox have labored in all facets of the game.

The team ranks 22nd in team ERA, 23rd in WHIP, and 17th in home runs allowed. Pitchers such as Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn have labored mightily as well.

Offensively, Chicago is a mess. They are 24th in runs scored, 25th in home runs, 20th in OBP, and 23rd in slugging percentage. The one area where they have excelled is in batting average, where their .253 batting average ranks seventh.

Chicago is trying to get things going. But it’s been a struggle, to say the least. However, many still expect them to heat up at some point.

But they are fresh off of a series loss against the Angels and previously struggled against the lowly Orioles. Such a talented team like the Giants should give them trouble.

The White Sox will send RHP Lance Lynn (1-1, 6.19) to the mound for Friday’s series opener. The veteran dealt with an injury to open the 2022 season and has not bounced back. But Lynn is a talented pitcher capable of turning things around.

San Francisco Giants Preview

The Giants trail in the NL West but have played well.

Despite ranking just 18th in ERA and 15th in WHIP, San Francisco leads all of baseball with just 64 home runs surrendered. They excel at keeping the ball in the park.

Offensively, the Giants are 17th in batting average, eighth in OBP, 11th in slugging, 11th in home runs, and ninth in runs scored.

Joc Pederson has emerged as a star for the Giants this season. The slugging outfielder leads them in home runs to go along with a solid .276 batting average and .583 slugging percentage.

San Francisco is expected to win Game One. But they can’t afford to take anything for granted. The White Sox feature big names on their roster despite the team’s overall struggles.

RHP Alex Cobb (3-3, 5.48) is the scheduled starter for San Francisco. He has also dealt with injuries and labored when on the mound. But Cobb is facing a White Sox lineup that has been very underwhelming this year.

Injury Report

White Sox star Eloy Jimenez is battling a hamstring injury and is expected to be out until early July. He could return soon, but it remains unclear when he will officially be back in the Sox lineup.

Adam Halsey is dealing with an illness and is probably on Friday.

Kyle Crick is dealing with an elbow injury and will not return until next week at the earliest.

Liam Hendriks, Yasmani Grandal, and Aaron Bummer are all expected to be out until early-mid July. So the White Sox are slowly getting healthy.

But as of Game One vs. the Giants, Chicago is under-manned.

As for San Francisco, Jakob Junis is out until mid-July with a hamstring ailment.

Brandon Crawford is set to return in early July, possibly July 5th. The shortstop has a lingering knee injury.

Luis Gonzalez could return at any time from his back injury. The same can be said for Jose Alvarez.

Chicago White Sox at San Francisco Giants and Predictions

This could end up being a competitive ball game between these ball clubs. The White Sox could give the Giants some trouble even though they have been bad as of late.

But San Francisco finds ways to win games. They come up clutch when necessary and play well in front of their home faithful.

This is an interesting interleague matchup since these clubs don’t see each other all that often. This may lead to an advantage for both pitchers since offenses may be unfamiliar with them.

I expect the under to hit on the total.

As for the game, the Giants should be in line to take care of business. Alex Cobb hasn’t pitched great, but the offense should give him just enough run support. And San Francisco’s bullpen will take care of the rest.

The Pick: Go ahead and roll with the San Francisco Giants -1.5 in this Friday night affair.
