AL West Rivals Collide in LA

The 2021 MLB season is starting to wind down, but playoff races are starting to heat up in both league and in all conferences. The Los Angeles Angels host the Houston Astros on Friday night in a very important game for the road team.

Houston comes into this game with a record of 68-46, but they need to keep winning games to stay on top of the AL West Division. The Astros currently have a slim 1.5-game lead over the Oakland Athletics, and they can’t seem to create any separation.

Los Angeles brings a 58-58 record into the series opener on Friday night, and the Angels just can’t seem to go on a big run. The Angels are not going to be a playoff team in 2021, but they can still mess up some MLB picks by playing the role of spoiler.

According to BetUS Sportsbook, the MLB odds for this game have the Houston Astros at -140 on the moneyline on Friday night.

Astros Can Mash

The Houston Astros have one of the best lineups in all of MLB, and they can put points on the board in a hurry. Houston has scored 614 runs so far this season, and there aren’t many holes in this lineup.

Jose Altuve is once again providing plenty of offense for the Astros, leading the team with 25 home runs on the year. Michael Brantley sets the tone for this team with a .332 batting average, but this entire team does a great job of getting on base.

Not only can the Astros hit, but they are also a great pitching team. Houston has pitched to a team ERA of 3.66, and they have one of their top pitchers on the mound on Friday.

Zack Greinke is 10-3 with a 3.69 ERA, and he will be tough on the Angels lineup.

Can Angels Get Some Pitching?

The Angels have had a big issue in terms of pitching this season, and that is a big concern when facing the mighty Astros lineup. Los Angeles does have a pair of dominant starters, but neither of those pitchers will be starting on Friday night.

Patrick Sandoval is set to start in the series opener, and he is just 3-5 with a 3.39 earned run average. Sandoval can give his team a huge boost by pitching a great game on Friday night, but it’s not going to be easy.

The Angels do have a team batting average of .252 and a slugging percentage of .423. Los Angeles has the ability to score runs in a hurry, and it will take a big output to win this game.

Shohei Ohtani just continues to amaze, and he leads the Angels with 38 home runs and 84 RBIs. The Angels continue to play without Mike Trout, but he is expected to return soon.

Greinke, Astros Roll on Friday Night

The Los Angeles Angels have proven that they can pull off some impressive wins throughout the season, but they also struggle to find consistent play. Los Angeles is facing a tough task on Friday night as they are taking on one of the best pitchers in the AL West Division.

Houston looks like a real threat to win the World Series this season, and they come into this game with plenty of momentum. The Astros offense has struggled a bit of late, but this could be a big series for that unit.

This sports betting matchup just feels lopsided on paper, and that is how it is going to play out on the field in LA as well. Be sure to head to BetUS Sportsbook and take the Houston Astros -1.5 over the Los Angeles Angels as the MLB pick for this game.
