The Cleveland Guardians (82-67) will look to complete a sweep of the White Sox (76-73) in Chicago on Thursday.
The White Sox came into this series needing to win at least two out of three games. They would have loved to pull off a sweep without question. Instead, they have dropped the first two games against Cleveland.
The Guardians earned an extra-inning victory to kick off the series on Tuesday. Cleveland came back on Wednesday with a massive 8-2 win.
It goes without saying, but Chicago has to have Thursday’s game. The Guardians currently hold a six-game lead in the AL Central.
The first pitch is scheduled for 8:10 PM EST on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Guaranteed Rate in Chicago, IL.
Cleveland Guardians at Chicago White Sox Odds
Teams | Moneyline | Total | Run Line |
Cleveland Guardians | -132 | O/7.5 | -1.5 |
Chicago White Sox | +122 | U/7.5 | +1.5 |
The Guardians enter this game as the favorites… and that is to be expected.
Cleveland is red hot right now. The Guards are 8-2 over the course of their last ten games and have taken care of business against both the Twins and White Sox over the past week.
However, the White Sox are a team with upset potential. Chicago is going to come out with extra motivation in a must-win game on Thursday.
Thursday’s game should prove to be much more competitive than Wednesday’s blowout.

Cleveland Guardians at Chicago White Sox Betting Preview
Cleveland Guardians Preview
The Guardians have had a difficult week from a schedule perspective. In fact, this was the most important week of the season so far for them.
It began with a lengthy five-game series against the Twins at home. Cleveland was able to take four out of game games from Minnesota, which nearly ended the Twins’ chances of making the playoffs.
However, they had to then go to Chicago for a crucial three-game set. And so far, the Guardians have taken care of business.
They opened the series with an extra-inning win. On Wednesday, they earned a convincing win.
Triston McKenzie absolutely shoved over the course of eight innings. He surrendered two earned runs while striking out 11. It was undeniably a clutch performance by the Guardians right-hander.
Cleveland ranks 10th in batting average, 15th in OBP, 21st in slugging percentage, 18th in runs scored, and 29th in home runs. With the exception of a few players, the Guardians don’t hit a lot of home runs.
But they get on base at a solid clip and consistently put the ball in play. The Guardians are eighth in team ERA, fifth in WHIP, 16th in home runs allowed, sixth in batting average against. Cleveland’s pitching has held up its end of the bargain.
Their ace, Shane Bieber (11-8, 2.83), will get the start on Thursday. Bieber has been terrific as of late and may even earn a Cy Young vote.
Chicago White Sox Preview
The White Sox came into the series needing to win. Chicago had been playing well during the month of September but was unable to take care of business against the Guardians at home.
Lance Lynn did not pitch well but did work six innings in order to save the bullpen. The big right-hander allowed six runs (three earned) over the course of six innings. His effort was key in a sense because the White Sox bullpen was overused the night before in the extra-inning affair.
Chicago mustered all of seven hits in Wednesday’s loss. They produced just two runs in the defeat after getting stunned by Triston McKenzie.
The White Sox are second in batting average, 15th in OBP, 14th in slugging percentage, 15th in runs scored, and 21st in home runs. The White Sox offense is talented but has failed to produce much in the way of consistency.
The White Sox are 13th in team ERA, 16th in WHIP, 11th in home runs surrendered, and 12th in batting average against. Dylan Cease has a legitimate chance of winning the Cy Young.
However, Johnny Cueto (7-8, 3.09) is the probable starter for the White Sox. He’s been a pleasant surprise for Chicago in 2022. The veteran was signed for depth purposes earlier this year but has emerged as a key factor in Chicago.
The White Sox need Cueto to get the job done and lead the team on Thursday.
Injury Report
Both these teams are fairly healthy.
The Guardians are hoping that Zach Plesac can return soon from the 15-day IL.
For the White Sox, Michael Kopech was recently placed on the 15-day IL. His timetable is fairly unclear.
Cleveland Guardians at Chicago White Sox Picks and Predictions
Which of these teams should you place your money on? Can the White Sox upset the odds at home, or will the Guardians cover the run line?
Cleveland is rolling right now. I love their chances with Shane Bieber on the mound.
