The Best Bets for Sunday, April 17th

The Atlanta Braves (5-5) and San Diego Padres (5-5) will go head-to-head in a Sunday Night Baseball contest to close out an exciting weekend series.

San Diego started off the series with a dominant 12-1 victory. But the Braves came back on Friday and Saturday with consecutive 5-2 wins over the Padres. Atlanta can officially clinch the series with a win, while the Padres can split the series with a rebound victory.

This should be another Sunday Night Baseball game between talented teams.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:08 P.M. EST on Sunday, April 17th, at Petco Park in San Diego, CA.

MLB – Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres Betting Trends

Atlanta Braves:

  • Atlanta is 3-7 against the run-line.
  • The Braves are 2-1 against the run-line on the road this season.
  • They are 1-1 against the run-line as an underdog this year.

San Diego Padres:

  • San Diego is 6-4 against the run-line.
  • The Padres are 1-2 against the run-line at home to kick off the year.
  • They are 4-3 against the run-line as a favorite this season.

Betting Odds

Braves:

The Braves rebounded nicely from their crushing defeat to open the series on Thursday in San Diego. The defending champs have reeled off consecutive impressive victories and will aim to make it three in a row on Sunday evening.

The team struggled to open the season. But everyone expects this team to be fine moving forward.

Ian Anderson got the start on Saturday, and the right-hander pitched a good game. He lasted 5.2 innings and struck out seven while allowing just one run on two hits. The bullpen coughed up one late run, but that was all the Braves pitching staff surrendered in the ballgame.

Matt Olson stayed hot with three hits, including a home run. He has fit right into the middle of the Braves lineup and figures to be a vital piece to the puzzle moving forward.

Dansby Swanson also had two hits. The fan-favorite shortstop has endured his share of struggles at the plate to open the 2022 campaign, but this two-hit performance could be the beginning of a hot stretch for Swanson.

Bryce Elder will take the mound on Sunday. The right-hander pitched 5.2 innings in his first game and surrendered three runs in the performance.

Elder and the Braves offense will look to clinch the series and carry momentum into their upcoming games in L.A. against the Dodgers.

San Diego Padres:

The Padres lineup has gone cold over their past two games. Their combined total of four runs during that span is simply not going to cut it against a team like the Braves.

San Diego mustered all of four hits in Saturday’s affair. Tren Grisham led the offensive charge with a home run from the top of the order. The Padres center fielder finished with 1-3 with a walk to go along with his homer.

Jurickson Profar also went 1-3 with a home run. Other than Grisham and Profar, San Diego could not get much of anything else going on offense.

Nick Martinez was on the bump for the Padres.

Martinez went five innings of the four-run ball and struck out three, and walked four. His outing was far from efficient, but it could have been much worse. Anytime you walk more hitters than you strike out, there is a chance that a team drops a six or seven spots against you.

Martinez was fortunate to escape with just the four runs allowed. Nonetheless, he earned the loss in the game.

It should be noted that Nabil Crismatt finished the final three innings of the game and allowed just one hit.

San Diego turns to their ace to end their minor slump on Sunday in Yu Darvish. Darvish has labored to open the season. He has allowed nine earned runs in 7.2 innings pitched.

He and the Padres will look to rebound in this affair.

Best Betting Odds to Bet Online

The Padres enter Sunday as the favorites despite being down 2-1 in the series. This is a product of home-field advantage and having Darvish on the hill. However, Darvish will need to figure things out and pitch better if San Diego wants to cover this run-line.

The Braves are certainly a trendy underdog pick for this matchup. But their inexperienced starter on the hill could cause a problem against a fairly deep Padres lineup. Atlanta’s bullpen will be a major factor in this ballgame.

How To Bet On: Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres MLB Betting lines
Can the Padres salvage a win and split the series at home? Or is Atlanta destined to earn a 3-1 series victory?

I like the Braves as not just underdog picks but a comeback pick. If you are betting on the first five innings, roll with San Diego.

The Padres will come out with some extra motivation at home on Sunday Night Baseball. Darvish should be in line for a better outing, and the bats will produce some runs early.

However, the Braves bullpen will pull out all of the stoppages late and shut down the Padres lineup. Meanwhile, Atlanta’s offense should be able to get things going en route to a late-game win.
