Odds, Picks and Predictions
- The Arizona Diamondbacks are 58-43 against the run line so far this season.
- The Cleveland Guardians are 54-47 against the run line so far this year.
- The Diamondbacks are 27-20 against the run line when playing on the road.
- The Guardians are 23-21 against the run line when playing at their home ballpark.
- Arizona is 47-30 against the run line as an underdog this year.
- Cleveland is 21-22 against the run line as a favorite this year.
The Cleveland Guardians (52-49) prepare to host the Arizona Diamondbacks (45-56) on Monday in Cleveland.
The Guardians are fresh off of a solid road trip that saw them finish with a record of above .500. Cleveland has played well as of late and now trail the Twins by just one game in the AL Central.
The same can’t be said for the Diamondbacks. Arizona was swept by the Braves in Atlanta over the weekend. They place last in the NL West entering this ball game.
The Diamondbacks will try to turn things around against Cleveland on Monday. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST on Monday, August 1st, at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Arizona Diamondbacks at Cleveland Guardians Blue Jays Odds
Teams | Moneyline | Total | Run Line |
Diamondbacks | +134 | O/8.5 | +1.5 |
Guardians | -145 | U/8.5 | -1.5 |
The Guardians are favored in this contest. Cleveland has been the better team and finds themselves near the top of the AL Central. The home field advantage helps matters as well.
But teams tend to struggle in their first game back home after a long road trip. So that is something to consider.
At the same time, Arizona is fresh off getting swept by Atlanta. They also traded veteran David Peralta to the Rays over the weekend, which could negatively impact the dynamic in the clubhouse.
So let’s break down both teams heading into this game.

Arizona Diamondbacks at Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview
Arizona Diamondbacks Preview
The Diamondbacks don’t have much momentum heading into Cleveland. They also are in unfamiliar territory in Cleveland, as AL Central teams rarely play NL West ball clubs.
Arizona’s main problem over the weekend was offense. The Diamondbacks scored just four total runs in three games over the weekend. They were most recently shut out on Sunday.
But the D’Backs’ offensive struggles have been in full effect all season long. They are just 28th in batting average, 23rd in OBP, 17th in slugging percentage, and 20th in runs scored. However, they do feature some power, as they are 11th in home runs.
The pitching hasn’t fared much better.
Arizona is 22nd in team ERA, 19th in WHIP, 21st in batting average against, and 11th in home runs allowed.
RHP Zach Davies (2-4, 3.94) is the scheduled starter for Arizona on Monday. Davies is a soft-tossing right-hander who features the ability to keep hitters off-balance. He will attempt to do just that in this Monday evening matchup.
Cleveland Guardians Preview
The Guardians have to feel good about their recent road trip. They took care of business and split a pair of four-game series in Chicago with the White Sox and Boston with the Red Sox. They finished the trip over the weekend with a 2-1 series win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Cleveland hasn’t been spectacular in any one area this season. Their pitching has not performed up to expectations, but their offense has been impressive.
The Guardians are seventh in batting average, 16th in OBP, 16th in slugging, and 16th in runs. However, they are just 27th in home runs. Nonetheless, this was one of the worst lineups in baseball a season ago, so their turnaround has been a huge part of Cleveland’s overall success.
Meanwhile, the pitching hasn’t been bad. But they were expected to be one of MLB’s best pitching rotations, and that has not been the case. Cleveland is 14th in ERA, 10th in WHIP, 17th in home runs surrendered, and 13th in batting average against.
RHP Cal Quantrill (7-5, 3.97) will start for the Guards in this one. He’s been a solid member of the rotation this year.
Injury Report
From an injury standpoint, both of these teams haven’t dealt with an overload of injuries.
For Arizona, Tyler Gilbert and Kenyan Middleton are both on the 15-day IL. Zach Davies is on the 15-day IL as of this article’s publication but will be activated to start Monday’s game against Cleveland.
Nick Ahmed and Humberto Castellanos are both currently on the 60-day IL. Ahmed, who is out for the season, has been a defensive stalwart for Arizona for years now. His absence certainly hurts the Diamondbacks.
Meanwhile, Aaron Civale and Anthony Gose are both on the 15-day IL for the Guardians. Young Oscar Gonzalez is on the 10-day IL.
Civale was a potential trade candidate despite the Guardians high ranking, so his injury stands out. Gose is a valuable reliever as well, who the team misses. Gonzalez is expected to return soon.
Arizona Diamondbacks at Cleveland Guardians Picks and Predictions
So who wins this game?
The Guardians are the favorites in this one. Cleveland is expected by many to win. But can they cover the moneyline and spread?
There is some concern since Cleveland is heading home for the first time in over a week. But I can’t recommend betting on Arizona right now. Their roster simply has too many question marks.
I believe this pesky Guardians lineup will cause havoc for Zach Davies. This is a lineup that posted five runs against potential AL Cy Young winner Shane McClanahan on Sunday, so they shouldn’t have too much trouble against Davies.
Expect a competitive ball game overall, but look for Cleveland to take care of business and win this game.
The Pick: Roll with the Cleveland Guardians -1.5 in this Monday night ball game.
