Introduction to MLB All-Star Game

  • The American League has won 20 of the past 24 All-Star games overall.
  • The American League has won eight straight All-Star games.
  • The National League has won six of the 33 past All-Star games.

The National League will host the American League in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA.

The AL has dominated the game as of late. However, the NL will have the backing of Dodger stadium rooting for LA’s All-Stars on Tuesday. Home-field advantage is always crucial in a game such as this.

NL-110U/8-1.5

Odds are difficult to trust in a game such as this. It’s technically an exhibition, and both teams have a solid chance of winning.

The NL is the favorite, given that the game will be played at Dodger Stadium. With a number of Dodgers on the roster, bettors who roll with the favorite will be hopeful that the LA faithful can propel them to victory.

In terms of the over/under, it can be difficult to choose whether to bet the over or under. The AL won last year’s affair 5-2. But there are other years where offense reigns supreme.

So it could go either way.

But I like the under in this game due to the plethora of incredible pitching on both sides.

So which team should you place your money on? Can the AL continue their dominance? Or will the NL uphold the spread and get the job done?

American League at National League Betting Preview

American League Preview

This All-Star game is going to be a good one. There is no shortage of talent on either side.

Each team has advantages in certain areas, but this should end up being a rather competitive contest.

The Blue Jays are well-represented on the American League side of things. Alejandro Kirk and Vladimir Guerrero will represent the team in the starting lineup.

A couple of Yankees outfielders are also starting in Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Judge would probably be the MVP right now if the season ended today. He has been a major reason for New York’s success and leads all of MLB in home runs this year.

Shohei Ohtani will bat leadoff and DH. The Angels superstar represents Anaheim since Mike Trout will miss the game due to injury. Byron Buxton replaced Trout in the starting lineup.

The AL’s left side of the infield features Rafael Devers and Tim Anderson. Both are enjoying superb 2022 campaigns. Meanwhile, Cleveland’s Andres Gimenez gets the nod at second base with Jose Altuve injured.

Shane McClanahan (10-3, 1.71) is the starter for the AL. The Rays’ budding ace has been excellent this season.

This is an AL squad more than capable of getting the job done. As seen in the betting trends, the Junior Circuit has dominated the All-Star game in years past.

National League Preview

The National League firmly believes they can take care of business at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night.

The NL has a pair of Dodgers in the starting lineup in Trea Turner and Mookie Betts. Both players have performed at an elite level and undeniably deserve to start this contest.

A couple of former Dodgers in Manny Machado and Joc Pederson, also got starting nods. However, fans will likely cheer Pederson and possibly boo Padres star Manny Machado.

A pair of brothers are also starting this game in Wilson and William Contreras. William is the DH replacing Nolan Arenado, and Wilson is doing the catching.

Potential MVP front-runner Paul Goldschmidt will play first base, and Jeff McNeil is at second. Ronald Acuna Jr is also starting in the outfield for the NL.

Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw (7-2, 2.13) is the starter for the Senior Circuit. Kershaw will enter this game to an outpouring of cheers. He is a fan favorite in LA without question.

The NL enters this game as a betting favorite. However, they have endured a difficult time with the AL over the past few All-Star games.

Injury Report

Both sides have a number of injuries to consider. Notably, Mike Trout is out of the AL.

Trout was placed on the 10-day IL on Monday and will be forced to miss the All-Star game.

Jose Altuve will also be forced to miss the game with an injury.

On the NL side of things, Bryce Harper and Nolan Arenado headline their injuries.

Despite a number of various ailments throughout both rosters, there will still be plenty of star-studded talent on both sides.

2022 MLB All-Star Game Picks and Predictions

There is a lot to consider when breaking down the All-Star game. Sure, we can focus on the starting pitchers, but they will only go two innings at the very most. Maybe three in extremely rare cases.

And the starters are removed mid-way through the game as well. Oftentimes, this game is decided by relievers and reserves.

Both teams have no shortage of depth. Players such as Jose Ramirez are slated to come off of the AL bench.

Bullpen-wise, the NL has Edwin Diaz ready to lock things down. Diaz has been dominant for the Mets in 2022.

But the AL has Emmanuel Clase of the Guardians, who has also been terrific.

So who wins this game?

In the end, I like taking a chance on the AL to get the job done. The potential payout is worth the risk since they are the underdogs. But if we are being honest, it really is not that big of a risk.

The AL has been the better of the two leagues in the All-Star game over the years.

The Pick: Roll with the American League +1.5  in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game.
