The German Open, one of the oldest tournaments on the tennis schedule, began this week, and the quarter-finals are beginning to take shape. The grass court tournament first held in 1896 and in Berlin from 1991 to 2008, is one of the last tournaments before Wimbledon and features many standout players looking to prepare for the third Grand Slam of the season.
The German Open was relaunched in 2021 as a WTA 500-level grass court event. It had previously been a clay court tournament played prior to the French Open at Roland Garros. In the first of four quarter-finals, Petra Kvitová takes on Caroline Garcia. Let’s take a closer look at their tennis odds and further German Open predictions.

Petra Kvitová vs. Caroline Garcia Betting Preview
This could easily be the best match of the tournament, despite the fact that nine of the world’s ten best female players are in the loaded field at the German Open.
Ekaterina Alexandrova and Coco Gauff were deadlocked at one set apiece in the Round of 16 as of press time, while Aryna Sabalenka was slated to player Veronika Kudermetova and Maria Sakkari was due to play Aliakasandra Sasnovich. Donna Vekic and Elina Avanesyan meet in Friday’s other quarter-final.
Petra Kvitová Preview
Kvitová, a two-time Wimbledon champion, is 17-7 on the WTA Tour this season and won the Miami Open earlier this year. However, she struggled since then, losing back-to-back first-round matches in the Madrid Open and French Open before participating in the German Open. Kvitová didn’t participate in the 2022 German Open.
- Kvitová is 17-7 this year.
- Kvitová is 5-4 against Garcia in nine career matches.
- Kvitová and Garcia have never played on grass.
- Kvitová, a two-time Wimbledon champion, is 2-0 on grass this season and 12-4 dating back to 2021.
- Kvitová has a career 73.96 winning percentage on grass.
Kvitová won 85 percent of points on first serve in her Round of 16 match against Podoroska and still managed to win 71 percent of points on second serve. She had five aces compared to just one double fault and won five of six break points.
Kvitová has solid tennis stats heading into the quarter-final match and looks to be gearing up for a solid run at Wimbledon, where she excels on grass. She’s the slight betting favorite, and I’d expect her to win in a close, three-set match.
Caroline Garcia Preview
Garcia, one of the early tennis picks to win the tournament as the No. 3 seed, is a 29-year-old French player who is ranked No. 4 in the world. She has 11 career WTA Tour titles but has yet to win this year and holds a record of 21-12.
She was upset in the Round of 64 at Roland Garros by Anna Blinkova. Garcia won her first-round match in Berlin 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 over hometown favorite Sabine Lisicki and followed that up with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Australian Jaimee Fourlis.
Garcia didn’t participate in either the 2022 or 2021 German Open. The event wasn’t held from 2009 to 2020.
- Garcia is 21-12 this year but was just 4-5 in her last nine matches before the German Open predictions.
- Garcia is 4-5 in nine career matches against Kvitová.
- Garcia has never played Kvitová on grass, and each of her four wins has come on hard courts.
- Garcia was 10-3 on grass last year.
- Garcia has a 65.38 career winning percentage on grass.
Garcia, who was also participating in doubles on Thursday, won an impressive 88 percent of points on first serve in her Round of 16 match against Jaimee Fourlis. She won 68 percent of points on second serve. She had six aces and just one double fault, won three of 10 break points, and 32 receiving points.
While grass is also Garcia’s best surface, Kvitová is slightly better on a grass court and holds a winning record over Garcia in nine career matches. This could go either way, but expect Kvitová to be victorious in a three-set match.

Recommended Pick
Kvitová has been in better form prior to the German Open than Garcia and has a distinct head-to-head advantage. She’s also the better grasscourt player. Moreover, she has the benefit of being on the court at the German Open for less time than Garcia.
Kvitová needed less than 50 minutes to win her Round of 16 games and has been on the court for just 2:04:52 through two matches in the German Open. Garcia, meanwhile, has spent nearly three hours on the court and is coming off of a 1:28:36 match in the Round of 16.
Kvitová and Garcia last played in the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, a match in which Garcia won in straight sets. Kvitová won the prior two matches in straight sets.
Despite almost splitting their nine career matches, only one has gone three sets. Expect Friday’s match to finally go the distance once again, but with Kvitová taking the victory in three sets per our German Open Predictions. There may even be a tiebreaker or two.
- Pick: Petra Kvitova -150
