Wyoming Officially Launches Sports Betting
The state of Wyoming has been working on launching sports betting for a few months, and that industry officially went live on September 1. Wyoming is one of only a handful of states that were able to pass a piece of sports betting legislation and launch the industry in the same year.
Lawmakers in Wyoming always had a goal in mind to launch before the start of College Football and the NFL season. Now that the state has legal sports betting, the sports betting market in the state of Colorado could see some real competition.
Colorado has emerged as one of the sports betting leaders in the US, and there are over 25 different online sports betting options available. Wyoming is not going to even compare to the size of Colorado, but the states will compete for customers along the border.
Wyoming is now just the second state to feature online-only sports betting, but that is the most popular way to wager on sports for most bettors. The state is also allowing betting on college sporting events, and that will allow the market to take off even quicker.
The first two online sports betting options in Wyoming are BetMGM and DraftKings, and both of those companies offer betting in Colorado as well. Other operators are expected to live in Wyoming at some point this month, bringing even more competition.
Even for those Colorado residents that lie right on the border of the two states, a new app will need to be downloaded before any bets are made. This will give Colorado sports bettors a chance to take advantage of all of the promotions at both BetMGM and DraftKings that are reserved for new customers.
Another factor that could hurt the Colorado market is that Wyoming will accept sports bettors that are at least 18 years of age. The legal gambling age in Colorado is 21, and that is the case for most other markets throughout the US.

Retail Betting at Mountain Ute Casino
The Colorado sports betting industry just continues to grow, and this time it is another Native American tribe that is getting in on the mix. The Mountain Ute Tribe began offering retail sports betting at the Mountain Ute Casino last week.
While this new retail betting option is up and running prior to the start of the NFL season, the tribe is also hoping to offer online sports betting later this month. UteBet will be the new name of the online sports betting platform, and it will be the 27th mobile sportsbook in Colorado.
Growth in Colorado sports betting has been slow in 2021, but this will be the sixth new online sporting app to launch since January. While online betting has become extremely popular in the Centennial State, the retail side of things will give bettors in the Southwest portion of the state a feasible option.
All other retail sports betting must take place in the Rocky Mountains, but the Mountain Ute Casino Sportsbook should attract bettors from other states as well.
