Top Teams that Established Their Dominance

In a highly anticipated matchup, No. 1 Alabama defeated No. 12 Ole Miss easily with a 42-21 victory. The Crimson Tide more than covered the 14.5 point spread in this one.

Alabama showed up on defense, and their line constantly put pressure on the Ole Miss offense, which never really got anything going. This showing helped to affirm that Alabama is indeed deserving of being ranked as the No. 1 team. Their status had been in doubt following a couple shaky performances combined with the strong play of the team right behind them in the rankings.

And that team is No. 2 Georgia, who similarly had no trouble in their victory, as they sent No. 8 Arkansas packing with a 37-0 defeat. Even with the Crimson Tide’s victory, it is entirely possible that the Bulldogs have a compelling case for the top-ranked spot.

The Razorbacks offense posted a measly 156 total yards against this strong Georgia defense.

The Bulldogs rushing game led the way offensively with 273 yards on the ground and 3 touchdowns.

No. 4 Penn State shutout Indiana 24-0 and easily covered the 12.5 point spread. The Nittany Lions were excellent on defense which was highlighted by two forced turnovers and a blocked field goal. Their offensive attack saw a balanced passing and running game en route to the win.

A Week of Upsets

No. 3 Oregon dropped a heartbreaker to unranked Stanford in overtime with a final score of 31-24. The Ducks had the lead near the end of the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals came back and tied the game on the final possession of regulation and then scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime. This matchup was thrilling to watch and saw the final Pac-12 undefeated team lose their first game.

No 10 Florida was upset by Kentucky in a competitive 20-13 contest. The game came down to the final seconds, but the Gators were unable to complete the comeback. Their offense never found a consistent rhythm despite throwing for 208 yards through the air.

Close Calls

No. 6 Oklahoma failed to cover the 12-point spread betting odds but did earn a 37-31 victory over Kansas State. Oklahoma needed every bit of offense they got in this one to hold onto the victory, as Kansas State played a surprisingly tremendous game.

Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thompson threw for 320 yards and 3 touchdowns which was nearly enough to lead his team to the upset.

No. 7 Cincinnati defeated No. 9 Notre Dame 24-13 in a fairly competitive affair. The win is instrumental for Cincinnati’s playoff chances. The loss was a huge blow for the fighting Irish.

Other games that came down to the wire included Texas’s 32-27 victory over TCU, No. 25 Clemson’s 19-13 win against Boston College, and No. 22 Auburn defeating LSU by a final tally of 24-19.

Wrapping it Up

Overall, it was another exciting week of College Football. In the sports betting world, you likely won something if you bet on the top 5 teams other than Oregon. Georgia will continue to make their case for the No.1 spot as Alabama officially is feeling the pressure from the Bulldogs.
