Lewis vs Spivak: Betting Previews
Betting on Lewis
As Derrick Lewis’ career winds down at age 37, he seems like he might be losing a step against these up-and-coming contenders he has faced recently. Lewis is best known for his superhuman power and hilarious post-fight quotes.
Any time that Lewis is an underdog, it is worth taking a long look at making a play on him. He has the great equalizer over anybody in the world with his one-punch power. He can end the fight by just landing one clean shot on somebody’s chin.
Even if his career is taking a turn, a bet on Derrick Lewis to win via KO is always going to be an intelligent move when betting on this unpredictable sport. He will always be in the fight but will make it easy to see when he is going through adversity.
For Lewis to win this fight, he will need to hurt Spivak early on before he gets his hands on him. A KO is literally the only way I see Lewis winning this fight. He does not have the skills, focus, or cardio to win via decision, and he will get finished before going to the decision.
Betting on Spivak
Spivak might be the worst matchup for Lewis right now in his career. This kid is riding a lot of momentum and works behind a lot of pressure and volume in his attacks. He is almost a sure finish every time he steps into the octagon as well.
He is able to stop these big heavyweight strikers with his wrestling and skills when he is in a top position. Spivak doesn’t have the most value ever with his moneyline, but since it is a heavyweight bout with two massive fighters that hunt finishes, a prop bet is really attainable with a lot of value.
The prop bet for Spivak to win inside the distance is at -150 currently, and that just shows you what oddsmakers think about this fight. He is going to look to put Lewis away, and the bout has the possibility of ending very quickly.
Injury Report
There are no injuries reported to the NYSAC. You won’t ever hear about any injuries a fighter has coming into a big fight like this.

Lewis vs Spivak: Picks & Predictions
After a lot of film study on how Lewis handles great grapplers and quick guys, this does not seem like a good matchup for the 37-year-old, even though he has that great KO against Curtis Blaydes, who is arguably the best wrestler in the division.
Lewis will surely be looking to catch Spivak while he closes the distance; the problem is Spivak won’t level change into double legs like Blaydes. The technical skill of Derrick Lewis is not there to defend the slick trips and body locks of Spivak, so this is going to be a tough test to keep the fight standing.
Spivak has the blue print to beat Lewis. He knows fast starts are not Lewis’ friend, and he can break him mentally in the cage. Spivak also dominates when his opponent is not moving around and is a stagnant target for him. Lewis will not be able to move around that small APEX octagon enough to stay away from Spivak’s power and takedown attempts.
I think this will be a quick fight. Spivak will be able to push the pace and put Lewis into deep waters early. Lewis has that knockout power to steal this one, but the best pick will be Spivak to finish the UFC legend, unfortunately.
Lewis will need to take some time and really think about his next step in MMA when he realizes that these young prospects are just built differently with too much technical skill in both striking and grappling, along with elite athleticism.
The Pick
Sergey Spivak to win inside the distance at -150. If you are feeling lucky and want plus-odds, go for a victory in one of the first couple of rounds. I don’t see this one going into the championship rounds with these two guys going at it.
