The Phillies just keep on upsetting the odds. Philadelphia went into St. Louis being expected to lose, but they shocked the Cardinals with a pair of impressive wins.
People expected Atlanta to jump out to a 1-0 series lead in the NLDS; instead, Philadelphia rose up and earned a big win.
Starting pitcher Ranger Suarez did not have his best stuff by any means. But he stranded a number of runners on base. Suarez ended up leaving the game after 3.1 innings pitched and just one earned run allowed.
He also walked five batters but was able to strike out five.
The bullpen ended up surrendering five runs, which allowed the Braves to claw back into the contest. Philadelphia’s bullpen will need to get better moving forward in this series; they were, nevertheless, able to win 7-6.
The Phillies’ lineup led the charge in the win. Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos both tallied three hits each, and the offense as a whole produced 12 hits, en route to their seven runs.

Spencer Strider made the Braves’ NLDS roster, but was unavailable in Game 1. He hasn’t pitched since mid-September, and is still getting back into pitching shape. He likely won’t pitch in Game 2, but there is a chance. The Braves realistically expect him to be ready for Games 3 and 4.
Ozzie Albies is expected to miss the NLDS, as he recovers from a finger injury. However, he could possibly return later in the postseason, if Atlanta advances past the NLDS.
The Phillies have a number of players on their IL, including reliever Corey Knebel. But the rest of their injured players wouldn’t be considered major impact options for the most part.
