  • Philadelphia is 35-21 against the run line as an underdog.
  • Atlanta is 66-63 against the run line as a favorite.

The Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves are set to collide in Game 2 of the NLDS. The Phillies took care of business in Game 1, thus placing themselves in a good position to upset the odds in the series. However, Atlanta has the talent to rebound without question.

The Braves are favored heading into Game 2, but they will need to play a better brand of baseball on Wednesday in order to even out this series, at one game apiece. Philadelphia displayed that they will not back down, regardless of the odds.

The first pitch is scheduled for 4:35 PM EST on Wednesday, October 12th, at Truist Park in Atlanta, GA. This promises to be a thrilling clash!

Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves: Betting Preview

Betting on Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies just keep on upsetting the odds. Philadelphia went into St. Louis being expected to lose, but they shocked the Cardinals with a pair of impressive wins.

People expected Atlanta to jump out to a 1-0 series lead in the NLDS; instead, Philadelphia rose up and earned a big win.

Starting pitcher Ranger Suarez did not have his best stuff by any means. But he stranded a number of runners on base. Suarez ended up leaving the game after 3.1 innings pitched and just one earned run allowed.

He also walked five batters but was able to strike out five.

The bullpen ended up surrendering five runs, which allowed the Braves to claw back into the contest. Philadelphia’s bullpen will need to get better moving forward in this series; they were, nevertheless, able to win 7-6.

The Phillies’ lineup led the charge in the win. Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos both tallied three hits each, and the offense as a whole produced 12 hits, en route to their seven runs.

The Phillies have momentum right now. They trailed both the Mets and Braves all season long in the NL Eastern division but are now seeking their revenge.

Zach Wheeler is scheduled to start Game 2 on Wednesday after pitching well against the Cardinals. Wheeler finished the 2022 season with a 2.82 ERA and 163 strikeouts.

Are the Phillies worth taking a chance on from a betting perspective?

Betting on Atlanta Braves

The Braves left the bases loaded twice in this game. Their clutch-hitting ability was almost non-existent early in this contest.

Ronald Acuna Jr was able to record three hits. Meanwhile, Matt Olson and Travis d’Arnaud both got two hits and three RBIs to go along with a home run for each player.

But their offensive attack fell short in the game.

Max Fried, who will likely earn NL Cy Young votes, never found his groove in Game 1. The left-hander served up eight hits, which led to six runs (four earned) in a losing effort. The Braves bullpen followed Fried’s underwhelming performance by only allowing one run, but the Phillies were still able to hold on.

Kyle Wright will be Game 2 for Atlanta. Wright enjoyed an under-the-radar 2022 season. He finished the year with a remarkable 21-5 record and a 3.19 ERA, while striking out 174 hitters.

Atlanta is hopeful that he can lead a bounce back effort, as the Braves enter must-win territory on Wednesday. They cannot afford to head back to Philadelphia down 2-0.

If their offense comes through in clutch-hitting moments, they will earn a win in this one. But that is a big “if,” following Tuesday’s effort. Atlanta is still the favorite on paper, but any team can catch fire during the MLB Playoffs and start reeling off wins.

Injury Report

Spencer Strider made the Braves’ NLDS roster, but was unavailable in Game 1. He hasn’t pitched since mid-September, and is still getting back into pitching shape. He likely won’t pitch in Game 2, but there is a chance. The Braves realistically expect him to be ready for Games 3 and 4.

Ozzie Albies is expected to miss the NLDS, as he recovers from a finger injury. However, he could possibly return later in the postseason, if Atlanta advances past the NLDS.

The Phillies have a number of players on their IL, including reliever Corey Knebel. But the rest of their injured players wouldn’t be considered major impact options for the most part. Philadelphia is certainly healthy enough to make a deep playoff run, if they continue playing an impressive brand of baseball.

Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves: Picks & Predictions

Which team should you place your money on? Can the Phillies shock the Braves once more in Atlanta, or will the Braves rebound and earn a victory?

This projects to be a competitive affair between Atlanta and Philadelphia. Zach Wheeler was magnificent against the Cardinals last round, and may pitch well once again in Atlanta.

But it is difficult to imagine the Braves falling 2-0 in the series. I am banking on the Braves’ playoff experience to propel them to a crucial Game 2 victory over the Phillies.
