Odds, Picks and Predictions
The Cleveland Guardians (56-52) travel to Detroit to take on the Tigers (43-67) in an American League Central affair.
The Guardians are fresh off of a four-game split with the Houston Astros. After dropping the first two games, the Guardians came roaring back with a pair of victories over the weekend. Cleveland enters play sitting just a game out of the AL Central.
Meanwhile, the Tigers lost three out of four against the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend and sit in last place in the division. Detroit has labored all year. But they will attempt to upset the odds against Cleveland in this series.
Cleveland is listed as a fairly heavy favorite in this one. But the Tigers are the home team. So which ball club should you place your money on in this Tuesday evening AL Central game?
The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM EST on Tuesday, August 9th, at Comerica Park in Detroit, MI.

Betting on Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians designated Franmil Reyes for assignment on Monday, failed to acquire anybody noteworthy ahead of the trade deadline, and don’t feature much offensive depth around Jose Ramirez.
Yet, they are still right in the middle of both the AL Central and AL Wild Card race.
Cleveland looked like they were in line for an extremely long weekend after dropping their first two games against Houston. But the Guards earned wins on Saturday and Sunday.
On the season, Cleveland is eighth in batting average, 15th in OBP, 19th in slugging, 16th in runs, and 28th in home runs. Pitching-wise, the Guardians are 15th in team ERA, ninth in WHIP, 18th in home runs allowed, and 14th in batting average against.
They are a very pesky team. Cleveland doesn’t strike out and typically put the on ball in play. As a result, they force defenses to make plays on a consistent basis.
And the pitching has held up its end of the bargain. It hasn’t been quite as good as years past, but Cleveland still features a solid pitching staff.
Ace Shane Bieber (6-6, 3.39) will get the start for the Guardians in Detroit on Tuesday. The former Cy Young winner has pitched well as of late and will look to keep rolling in this contest.
Betting on Detroit Tigers
The Tigers are a very risky team to place bets on right now. They are the worst team in the lackluster AL Central, even trailing the underwhelming Kansas City Royals. Detroit doesn’t have much pitching depth, and their offense is horrendous.
The Tigers scored a total of five runs in their three losses against Tampa Bay over the weekend. However, the offense did break out with nine runs in their lone win. Nonetheless, the lack of consistency in terms of offensive production is troubling without question.
The Tigers are 28th in batting average, 29th in OBP, 30th in slugging percentage, 30th in runs scored, and 30th in home runs. Meanwhile, they are 20th in ERA, 19th in WHIP, sixth in home runs allowed, and 18th in batting average against.
So the Tigers have relied on their pitching this season. Pitchers such as Tarik Skubal have stood out for the ball club.
But this offense is historically bad. Miguel Cabrera, who is in the latter half of his career, has been one of their more productive hitters.
Jeimer Candelario and Javier Baez are tied for the team lead in home runs with a mark of 10. However, both are hitting under .330 on the season.
And nobody on the team has an OBP of over .350.
Detroit will need to rely on pitching once again if they want to upset the odds against the Guardians at home.
And speaking of pitching, Tyler Alexander (2-5, 4.04) is the probable starter for Detroit. Alexander hasn’t been bad in 2022. It will be interesting to see how he fares against the Guardians on Tuesday.
Cleveland Guardians at Detroit Tigers Picks and Predictions
So which team should you place your money on? Can the Tigers overcome their woes and upset the odds, or will the Guardians take care of business on the road?
When it comes down to it, betting against Shane Bieber and the Guardians on Tuesday would be a very risky decision. Cleveland is playing much better than Detroit right now, and they should be able to cover the run line.
Bieber has been prone to surrendering the long ball at times this year, so I don’t expect him to shut out the Tigers. But he will likely pitch well enough to lead Cleveland to a road victory.
As for the run line, I like Cleveland as well. This game could be closer than people expect, but the Guardians should be able to win by two or more runs. Cleveland has been strong against the run line this season, especially when playing on the road.
So you can feel confident taking Cleveland in this game.
The Picks:
- Go ahead and take the Cleveland Guardians as your moneyline betting selection in this Tuesday night ball game.
- Take the under on the over/under run total.
- Roll with the Cleveland Guardians -1.5 to cover the run line.
