The Los Angeles Dodgers (107-48) and San Diego Padres (86-69) will go head-to-head on Thursday in the rubber match of what has been a thrilling series.

The Padres took Game 1 in extra innings, while the Dodgers came back and won Game 2 in extra innings as well. San Diego is giving the Dodgers a run for their money in the series.

In the end, LA has already clinched the division, and they are the best team in baseball. But the Padres want to do everything they can to make a statement to the Dodgers. Additionally, San Diego needs to keep winning in order to wrap up a Wild Card spot.

Game 3 projects to be an exciting contest between these NL West rivals.

The first pitch is scheduled for 9:40 PM EST on Thursday, September 29th, at Petco Park in San Diego, CA.

The odds have not yet been released for this game. However, the Dodgers are the predicted favorite amongst some sportsbooks ahead of this game.

LA has been fantastic in terms of covering the spread this year. Meanwhile, the Padres have struggled on the run line in 2022.

LA’s mixture of elite offense and impressive all-around pitching provides them with a crucial advantage in most games.

Are the Dodgers going to cover the spread once again on Thursday? Or can the Padres get the job done at home in an important ball game?

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres Betting Preview

Los Angeles Dodgers Preview

The Dodgers took care of business in Game 2. LA was led by Julio Urias, who went six innings and surrendered six hits and no runs.

Urias has a realistic chance of winning the NL Cy Young. He’s been fantastic down the stretch and has stepped up amid a plethora of Dodgers injuries this year.

The bullpen followed Urias by tossing four shutout innings while surrendering just one hit. LA’s bullpen is amongst the best in baseball, and it showed on Wednesday in San Diego.

Offensively, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman led the charge. Betts went 2-4 with a walk, while Freeman had a hit and drove in the lone run in their 1-0 victory.

The Dodgers are third in batting average, first in OBP, first in slugging percentage, first in runs scored, and fifth in home runs. Pitching-wise, they are first in team ERA, first in WHIP, sixth in home runs allowed, and first in batting average against.

The Dodgers will send LHP Andrew Heaney (3-3, 3.06) to the mound on Thursday. The left-hander has found his rhythm in LA and will be a difficult matchup for the Padres in this game.

San Diego Padres Preview

The Padres dropped Wednesday’s game in extra innings. The Dodgers showed no shortage of desire to win despite already locking up the division. San Diego needs to rebound on Thursday.

Joe Musgrove pitched five strong innings in San Diego’s loss. He struck out eight batters but did walk four. However, he allowed no runs.

The bullpen fared well, but Steven Wilson ultimately surrendered one run in the 10th, which led to the Dodgers’ win.

The Padres are 18 in team batting average, eighth in OBP, 21st in slugging percentage, 11th in runs scored, and 21st in home runs. On the pitching side of the equation, they are 11th in ERA, ninth in WHIP, 16th in home runs allowed, and eighth in batting average against.

San Diego understands what is at stake. They are three games up in the Wild Card, but every game matters with still a week remaining in the season.

The Padres will send LHP Sean Manaea (7-9, 5.23) to the mound in this affair. Manaea is a talented pitcher who has endured an awful season. The Padres need him to flip the script moving forward.

Unless he sends the season on a high note, Manaea may not have a spot in the rotation during the playoffs.

Injury Report

For the Dodgers, Dustin May and Phil Bickford were recently placed on 15-day IL. Both pitchers’ absences are major blows ahead of the playoffs.

But Yency Almonte is set to return from the IL, which will help them moving forward.

The Padres are mostly healthy heading into this game.

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres Picks and Predictions

Which team should you roll with on Thursday?

From a motivation standpoint, the Padres hold a major advantage. They have yet to officially clinch a postseason spot.

But counting out the Dodgers is always risky. LA showed that they still plan on doing all they can to earn victories. The Dodgers just keep on winning and have no intentions of slowing down.

As a result, this will likely be another competitive game. Both offenses should fare better on Thursday. The Dodgers lineup is destined to score more than one lone run, while San Diego’s bats will likely wake up in the series finale.

In the end, the Dodgers are the team to beat in this contest.

The Pick:

Go ahead and take the Los Angeles Dodgers in this Thursday night National League West affair.
