The 78th U.S. Women’s Open begins on Thursday, July 6, at Pebble Beach, and there’s plenty of intrigue heading into this year’s event. Not only is the iconic tournament at one of the most renowned courses in the United States, but it features arguably one of the deepest fields in recent years, headlined by rising star Rose Zhang. There are others who have a great chance to win the tournament, but all eyes and US Open prediction will be on Zhang, the most hyped first-year professional since Michelle Wie burst onto the scene in 2005.
Zhang, who won the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur and the 2022 and 2023 NCAA Division I Championship, has a chance to become the first American to win the U.S. Women’s Open since Brittany Lang in 2016. Only seven Americans have won the tournament in the 21st century.
Looking at the past golf standings, winners include Minjee Lee (2022), Yuka Saso (2021), and Kim A-lim (2020). Nobody has won the tournament in consecutive years since Karrie Webb in 2000 and 2001.
The field for the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach includes each of the top-10 players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings as well as 12 LPGA Tour rookies and 12 past champions, including Lee, Saso, Sung Hyun Park, In Gee Chun, and Annika Sorenstam, a three-time champion.
There are also 46 golfers making their U.S. Women’s Open debuts and 12 golfers with California connections, including Zhang, who should be able to use her familiarity with Pebble Beach to her advantage.

2023 U.S. Women’s Open Betting Preview
Rose Zhang Preview
Zhang has only three golf events behind her as a professional at Pebble Beach but already has quite an impressive resume and is the betting favorite to win the 78th U.S. Women’s Open. That alone is a remarkable feat.
Zhang became the first woman in 72 years to win her debut event on the LPGA Tour at the Mizuho Americas Open and followed that up with a top-10 result at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club two weeks ago.
- Zhang has finished top-10 in each of her first two LPGA Tour events.
- She is 16th on the LPGA Tour money list despite only playing in two events.
- Zhang hasn’t shot higher than 74 through eight rounds and is averaging a score of 69.750 per round.
- Zhang has made the green in regulation 72.22 percent of the time.
- Zhang has a driving accuracy of 76.79 percent.
Rookie Sensation Rose Zhang: Betting on Brilliance at the U.S. Open!
It’s hard to imagine a first-year player coming in and winning two of their first three events, but Zhang has drawn incredible and deserved hype in the last few months. She also has the composure and maturity to be able to handle the spotlight, as evidenced by her comments earlier this week:
“I’m not an amateur anymore. I’m a professional, and that changes a lot of things. In the past month it’s been very crazy, hectic, but I’ve been enjoying every moment. There’s a lot more attention, a lot more media, but it’s kind of expected when you are doing well and when you are the rookie trying to go out here and play the best you can.”
Looking at the golf US Open odds, Zhang is the +1200 favorite to win the 2023 tournament, and I’d expect she follows through and wins the tournament, in turn cementing her status as one of the most talked-about and talented golfers on the US Open Prediction.
Jin Young Ko Preview
Jin Young Ko is coming off a T20 finish at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and a T13 finish at the Mizuho Americas Open. The talented 22-year-old South Korean golfer won the Cognizant Founders Cup in May, defeating defending U.S. Women’s Open champion Minjee Lee in a playoff and is expected to be a top US Open Prediction.
Ko also won the HSBC Women’s World Championship earlier this year and has finished outside of the top-25 just once in her last nine starts.
She has 15 career wins and two majors dating back to 2017 and was the 2021 Rolex Player of the Year.
- Ko hasn’t shot worse than 73 in her last 12 rounds.
- She is first in the Race to CME Globe Season with 1,478 points.
- Ko ranks 54th on the LPGA Tour in average driving distance (263.39) but is fourth in greens in regulation (74.69 percent).
- Ko ranks second on the LPGA Tour with a 69.5 scoring average.
Ko is the top-ranked player in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and will certainly be in contention this week as she strives to win her third major and first U.S. Women’s Open. She will be one of the popular golf US Open picks for a reason. Expect a top-10 finish, at the very least.

2023 U.S. Women’s Open Picks
Zhang, especially with odds hovering around +1000, is a great value US Open prediction to win the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open. She’s the most talked-about player in the golf world right now, man or woman, and could become a mainstream star with a breakthrough victory at Pebble Beach.
- Pick: Zhang +1000.
