Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Jets Betting Preview
The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets will wrap up their NFL preseason on Friday night in the Meadowlands, as both teams continue to get ready for NFL Week 1 of the regular season. The kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm EST at MetLife Stadium. You can watch the game on DAZN.
Both the Eagles and Jets are coming off miserable seasons, combining for only six wins in 2020-2021. This year marks a new era for both franchises, as they each have new head coaches and young quarterbacks that they hope will be the long-term answer.
When it comes to the NFL odds, the New York moneyline is at ___, and Philadelphia are ___. The Jets are four-point favorites at -110. The total points for this game is set at 33.5.

Hurts vs. Wilson
Jalen Hurts took over as the Eagles full-time quarterback last season after Carson Wentz struggled mightily. Hurts started in four games and despite a 1-3 record, showed nice potential as a dual-threat with both his arm and legs. Hurts finished the year with six touchdowns to four interceptions, and 354 yards rushing. With Wentz traded to the Colts in the offseason, look for Hurts to easily surpass 1,000 rushing yards in his sophomore campaign.
For the Jets, if you have any doubts about a 22-year-old kid out of Utah being overwhelmed in the Big Apple — think again. Second overall pick Zach Wilson has looked solid in his first two preseason appearances. In his first game against the Giants, the BYU star completed 6/9 passes for 63 yards and zero turnovers. He then followed it up with an even more impressive game against Green Bay last week, throwing for 128 yards on 9/11 passing, with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Wilson doesn’t look scared in the pocket like a lot of rookie quarterbacks do transition over from college football, and carries a certain type of moxy that Sam Darnold didn’t. The future is bright at QB, Jets fans.
Philly Embarrassed In Last Meeting
We can go back and forth on whether or not preseason games really matter, but there is absolutely no doubt that they can affect team morale. The Eagles have only put up six points offensively in their first two August games and were blown out 35-0 by New England at home last week. It got so bad that at times they were booed by the Eagles faithful. So yes, maybe preseason games do matter. If Philly puts up another pitiful performance and enters NFL Week 1 of the regular season with little to show for, it could get nasty for local sports radio in the City of Brotherly Love. First-round pick DeVonta Smith only had two receptions for 19 yards in his debut game, but I expect him to get more looks and playing time in this preseason finale.
The Pick
I think Philadelphia will be the more desperate team in this one, looking to get a win in the books before they face the Falcons in NFL Week 1. New York has looked great so far in the preseason, and the same can’t be said for the Eagles. First-year head coach Nick Sirianni should be extra motivated to have his team come out with a win in this game, or it won’t be a good look going winless in his first three exhibition games.
