The Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0) travel to Texas to take on the Longhorns (1-0) in what should be a good game.
The Crimson Tide cruised to a 55-0 victory over Utah State to open the season. But they will need to buckle down and prepare for this matchup, as Texas would love to hand them an early season upset.
The Longhorns also earned a convincing victory to open the season. Texas won by a final score of 52-10. This upcoming matchup against Alabama represents their chance to compete in 2022.
If they can upset the odds, this could be the Longhorns’ year. But defeating Alabama is one of the most difficult tasks to accomplish in college football.
Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM EST on Saturday, September 10th, 2022, at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, TX.

But Texas has a realistic shot at upsetting the spread at the very least. They are playing at home and will have a ton of motivation.
So we established the Longhorns have a chance at an upset in that sense. But will it actually occur? Let’s take a look at the odds and betting prediction for this game.

Alabama Crimson Tide at Texas Longhorns Betting Preview
Alabama Crimson Tide Preview
Alabama took care of business against Utah State a week ago. They easily covered the massive spread as well.
Bryce Young went 18-28 to go along with five touchdowns. He only tallied 195 passing yards, but the five TDs were impressive. The reigning Heisman winner added 100 rushing yards on the ground to go along with another TD.
Jahmyr Gibbs added 93 of his rushing yards on nine rushing attempts. The Crimson Tide were running wild in this one and earned some of their biggest gains on the ground.
Traeshon Holden caught two touchdown passes and tallied 70 receiving yards. Jermain Burton and Jase McClellan both had two touchdown catches as well.
Defensively, Alabama obviously took care of business in the shutout.
But the Crimson Tide will need to be at the top of their game in Texas. The Crimson tend to do well against the spread, but Texas’ energy could propel this into a competitive game.
Covering the spread as 20-point favorites is not easy. But if anytime can get it done, it is the Crimson Tide.
Texas Longhorns Preview
The Longhorns also dominated their Week 1 opponent. LA Monroe never had much of a chance against Texas.
QB Quinn Ewers turned in a solid outing for the Longhorns. He went 16-24 with two touchdowns and one interception. He added 225 passing yards in the game.
Ewers is going to post better performances down the road. But this wasn’t a bad way to kickoff off the year for the young QB.
Bijan Robinson rushed for 71 yards on 10 total rushes. He scored one touchdown. It will be interesting to see how Robinson fares in games when he gets more attempts.
Ja’Tavion Sanders led the receiving core with six receptions and 85 yards to go along with a touchdown. Bijan Robinson added a receiving TD as well.
But do the Crimson Tide have a realistic shot of upsetting the odds against this elite Alabama squad?
Texas went 0-4 ATS last season in games where they were the underdog. They beat up on the small teams but were taken by storm against favorites. That statistic does not bode well for their chances on Saturday.
They also went 1-3 ATS when facing ranked opponents.
The Longhorns are expected to be a better overall team this season. But their jaw-dropping draft class won’t arrive until 2023. So they aren’t quite ready to compete at the same level as the college football juggernauts.
But they are going to put up a fight and make it difficult for the Crimson Tide.
Injury Report
For Alabama, Emil Ekiyor was presumed to be out due to injury. But he reportedly did not play simply because he missed too many practices the week before. Barring unforeseen circumstances, he should be ready to roll on Saturday.
Senior tight end Cameron Latu is expected to return ahead of this game. Latu was questionable but has been upgraded to probable.
The Longhorns have not released an updated injury report.
Alabama Crimson Tide at Texas Longhorns Picks and Predictions
Which team should you place your money on? Can Texas upset the spread at home, or will Alabama cover?
Alabama is going to win this game. If not, it will be one of the biggest upsets you will see.
With that out of the way, let’s discuss whether or not Texas will upset the spread.
Alabama very well may jump out to a big lead. In fact, they may enter the fourth quarter with a sizable advantage. But if the secondary players come in in the second half, Texas may be able to close the gap.
On the other hand, it is possible that Texas keeps this game competitive throughout and gives the Crimson Tide a run for their money. Either way, it is easy to envision Texas upsetting the spread.
The Pick:
Roll with Alabama with your outright betting pick. However, take Texas with your spread betting selection.
