Miami Heat at Memphis Grizzlies Betting Previews

Betting on Miami Heat

It will be strength on strength in this rendition of Heat vs Grizzlies. Miami has the 10th-best defense early on this season. They allow 110.3 points per game. However, they are 21st in holding teams to a 47.3% field goal percentage and are 16th with a 35.5% defensively on 3-pointers.

Offensively the Heat are 26th, scoring 109.5 points per game. They are 25th at converting 45.2% of field goals and 24th at making 33.7% of 3-pointers. They are, however, second in making 84.7% of free throws.

Rebounding has also been a struggle, partly due to pacing. The Heat are fourth worst in grabbing rebounds, managing only 41.2 rebounds per contest, and are 17th defensively, allowing 43.7 per game.

Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro lead the way for a Heat team that seeks continuity offensively. Butler is averaging 21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Adebayo is averaging 21.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. Herro is averaging 18.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.

In the last five meetings, the Heat are 1-4 against the spread against the Grizzlies. The Heat have been favored in the last three meetings and are 1-2 in those games, straight up and against the spread.

Betting on Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies have the eighth-best offense, scoring 115.3 points per game. They are 22nd in converting 46% of field goals and 11th in making 36.6% of 3-pointers. If they get a big lead, free throws could be troublesome, since they rank last in the league at 69.9%.

Defensively, the Grizzlies are 17th in allowing 113.7 points per game. They are 12th as teams convert 46.4% of field goals and 21st, allowing teams to make 36.3% of 3-pointers.

The Grizzlies are the best rebounding team in the league, pulling in 49.0 per game. They limit opponents to 42.5 per game, which ranks 10th overall.

Ja Morant is one of the most electrifying players in the league. He’s averaging 28.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 6.3 rebounds per game. Desmond Bane has really developed and is averaging 24.7 points per game. Both Dillon Brooks and Jaren Jackson Jr. are also over 17 points per game.

The over is 7-2 in the last nine meetings between the two teams, but the under is 12-5-1 in the last 18 games in Memphis. The road team has won the last three games, twice being the Grizzlies, who have won four of the last five since December 16, 2019.

Miami Heat at Memphis Grizzlies Picks & Predictions

This game is going to be determined by who can control the tempo. The line is such that oddsmakers must think Butler is going to play. If he were to be out, scooping up, Grizzlies -1 would be a steal before the bookies close down the odds.

That seems unlikely, however.

While the Heat are short-handed, they’ve always been a great defensive team. Erik Spoelstra has a system that works. Adebayo is going to have to be a great rim protector, as Morant and Bane like to penetrate to score. Dictating a slower pace and forcing turnovers is the way the Heat can win this game outright in what is essentially a pick ’em.

But the Grizzlies have been terrific at home. They are young and energetic and like to run up and down the court. If they can build up a big enough lead where it doesn’t come down to free throws, then they should be OK, especially with a Miami team with so many unknowns due to injuries.

The Pick

Memphis -1
