Odds, Picks and Predictions
It is so nice to see the MLB back in action after a very eventful All-Star Weekend. From Celebrity Softball to the dethroning of home run king Pete Alonso to a pitcher’s duel in the All-Star game, we had it all. The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox are ready to get back into action.
Baseball is back for these clubs, as they both look to continue their push to October. They square off Friday night at 7:10 p.m. EST in what might be the most important series of their season thus far.
Nothing is sewn up, but Boston has a lot of work to do to catch up to the mighty New York Yankees, as they sit at 48-45, two games back for a Wild Card spot. The Red Sox play in the best division in baseball, the AL East, where all five teams sit above the .500 mark. After a hot stretch, Boston has slowed down, going 3-7 in their last ten outings.
Toronto travels to historic Fenway Park in the AL East rivalry game. The Blue Jays sit at third in the division and also hold the final Wild Card spot over the Red Sox. With a record of 50-43, Toronto looks to bounce back in the second half as they entered the season with very high hopes.
The Red Sox are trending downwards, as they have struggled against the spread in July. Needless to say, the moneyline has been risky as well.
With their pitching struggles, the over has hit 8 of the last ten games as well. Toronto is 21-23 covering the spread on the road this season and 20-24 with the moneyline.

Betting Trends
With the Boston Red Sox getting a well-deserved break, it is hard to tell how this matchup will go. Will they continue their slump, or will they take down the Toronto Blue Jays?
Boston’s success has mostly come at home, where they are 23-20, but the spread is a different story. They struggle against the spread at home, going 21-22. In night games, they are 33-30 with the moneyline and 32-30 against the spread.
Toronto has been a risky team to bet on when they travel. They are 20-24 with the moneyline and 21-23 against the spread. The Blue Jays still hit the over more than half the time on the road, but their offense does much better at home. Toronto is 31-26 at night with the moneyline and 27-30 fighting the spread.
The last time these two teams met, Toronto won the series and outscored Boston 19-12. Boston has not taken a single series against their division rival all year.
Boston Needs to Bring the Energy
Granted, the Boston Red Sox pitching staff has been pretty banged up as of late with guys Michael Wacha, Rich Hill, and their clear ace Chris Sale down, but their No. 2 is ready to roll against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Nathan Eovaldi, the 32-year-old RHP, is set to take the mound for the team in red.
Eovaldi is sitting with a 4-2 record, 3.34 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts in 72.2 innings pitched. Both of his losses have come at home, where he has a 4.67 ERA. Eovaldi has only thrown 15.1 innings since June but looks to stay healthy for the home stretch of the season.
The AL East is owned by the New York Yankees this year, but Boston is fighting for that playoff spot. Boston needs to be buyers at the deadline and just wait for their pitchers to be healthy.
Boston has the third-best batting average in the AL at .256 with a top-five OPS as well. Boston is second in the AL in runs, and they just need to put aside their rough July.
With two electric offenses in town, that will be the story of game one of this series. Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, and J.D. Martinez must play like the All-Stars they are.
Let the Ball Fly Blue Jays
As alluded to earlier, this is going to be an offensive showing, especially for the Toronto Blue Jays. For whatever reason, Nathan Eovaldi has struggled on the mound at Fenway, and the Jays need to take advantage.
Kevin Gausman gets the nod from the Blue Jays skipper, and this is great news for those who want to bet on Toronto. Their ace is on the mound and will look to continue his great 2022 season.
At one point in the season, it seemed that everybody was talking about the Blue Jays, but the chatter disappeared. With a 50-43 record, the Blue Jay talk needs to heat back up. Speaking of heat back up, the Toronto offense needs to do so as well.
The Toronto offense has not scored double-digit runs since June 19 against the Yankees; that is very uncharacteristic of this bunch. The 2022 model for the Blue Jays has been to score more runs than the other team, and everything will figure itself out later. If it is not broken, do not fix it, and we will see that same model against the Boston Red Sox.
Toronto needs to take advantage of the depleted rotation of the Red Sox, and with the best batting average and second highest OPS, they can do so. If they can continue to hit the long-ball and keep the strikeout numbers low, the Blue Jays are in a great spot for this matchup.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox Picks and Predictions
- With confidence, you should take the Toronto Blue Jays at -119 for the Moneyline. Their offense is scary, and the Red Sox will continue their struggles.
- The Toronto Blue Jays are playing, so hammer the over. It is set at 8.5, but both teams will be exciting to be hitting the ball again after a long All-Star Break
- Your best bet is locking in on the Blue Jays beating the spread. No matter the odds, you should believe the Blue Jays will win by two or more runs, and you will walk away with some easy cash. Bet on the Blue Jays -1.5 (+135).
