The New York Yankees (72-43) and Tampa Bay Rays (60-53) will go head-to-head in a Monday night American League East matchup.
The Yankees were MLB’s best team through the first portion of the season. However, the wheels have fallen off as of late. The Yankees recently dropped a three-game series against the Red Sox 2-1 and have lost eight of their last ten games overall.
The Bronx Bombers will aim to turn things around against Tampa Bay this week.
As for the Rays, they defeated the Orioles in a three-game series 2-1. Tampa Bay is 6-4 over their past ten contests. They haven’t hit their stride yet, but the Rays are playing a respectable brand of baseball right now.
The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST on Monday, August 15th, at Yankee Stadium in New York.
Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees Odds
Teams | Moneyline | Total | Run Line |
Rays | N/A | N/A | +1.5 |
Yankees | N/A | N/A | -1.5 |
The Yankees enter this game as home favorites. There is no denying the fact that New York has struggled as of late. But every team is entitled to a rough stretch.
The Yankees should be able to find their footing sooner rather than later. This is a ball club that has smacked the ball all over the yard and pitched the lights out for the most part.
So it is not surprising to see them listed as home favorites.
But can Tampa Bay upset the odds? Which team should bettors roll with in this affair?

Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees Betting Preview
Tampa Bay Rays Preview
The Rays have quietly hung around in the AL East all season long. Most of the discussion has revolved around every other team in the division.
The Yankees’ hot start drew plenty of attention. Aaron Judge is single-handedly stealing headlines.
The Blue Jays have an exciting team which people have taken notice of. Boston’s underwhelming performance has been a talking point of its own. And the Orioles’ surprising playoff contention bid is a feel-good story.
So that leaves the Rays receiving little attention. They aren’t setting the league on fire, but they remain in contention. And that is how they tend to roll.
It also makes them a sneaky betting pick. Bettors may look past them. But Tampa Bay knows how to win games and keep the score close.
The Rays have not announced a starting pitcher for Monday. So bettors may want to wait and see who’s on the mound for TB before locking in final bets on this game.
New York Yankees Preview
The Yankees’ struggles as of late may have bettors running for the hills. New York was a comfortable betting selection for many prior to their recent slump. So people are having to rethink their strategy.
I still expect the Yankees to bounce back. As discussed earlier, they simply feature too much talent to continue laboring.
But their performance against the Red Sox was questionable. In fact, most sportsbooks had the Yankees listed as a run line favorite in each game… and the Yankees went 0-3 against the run line.
They lost Game One by a final score of 3-2. On Saturday, they were able to win. However, they won 3-2, which they didn’t cover.
And then they dropped their Sunday Night Baseball clash against Boston 3-0. So the pitching performed fairly well during the series. But the bats were unable to get much of anything going.
Speaking of good pitching, Gerrit Cole (9-4, 3.38) is expected to start for the Yankees on Monday. Cole will look to reverse the tide and lead New York to a home victory over Tampa Bay.
But Cole will also hope that the offense wakes him and provides him with some run support.
Injury Report
For the Rays, Matt Wisler is dealing with a neck strain and is on the 15-day IL. Harold Ramirez suffered a fractured right thumb in mid-July and is working hard to return and help TB down the stretch. But his return date is questionable.
The Rays are hoping to get Wander Franco back soon. He is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment soon.
Other injured players for Tampa Bay include Josh Fleming and Kevin Kiermaier, among others.
For the Yankees, Giancarlo Stanton will start a rehab assignment soon. Aaron Boone said the team is slowly working back into drills and working out.
Stanton could realistically return in late August.
Matt Carpenter is out 6-8 weeks with a foot injury. The 36-year-old wants to return this season. He would be a valuable addition for New York in the postseason if he is able to quickly recover.
New York is beginning to get injury plagued after avoiding the issue during the first half of the season. It will be interesting to see how they deal with adversity.
Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees Picks and Predictions
This projects to be a good game. The Yankees and Rays feature different styles of play, so it is intriguing when they match up.
However, New York is destined to jump back into the win column. Gerrit Cole might be in line for an outstanding performance against Tampa Bay as well.
The Pick:
Take the New York Yankees -1.5 with your betting selection in this Monday night AL East ball game.
