Shildt Happens
After the Pirates took 2/4 from the Cardinals over the weekend, it was the same old story from Mike Shildt in the post-game presser. We played hard, only had a few mistakes, blah blah blah.
Shildt doesn’t seem to understand that fans and pundits are upset at the Cardinals’ play because this is a fairly talented team. An offense with Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado shouldn’t be chasing a Wild Card spot, they should be leading a division.
That being said, Shildt can’t suit up and hit for the guys that are underplaying. This is the team that the front office gave him and he’s trying to make it work. It just isn’t.
Goldy and Tyler O’Neill have been phenomenal as of late. Goldy is top 3 in the NL in hits and has been red-hot since late June. The Cardinals just don’t have the depth they need to make a solid playoff run.
Tonight, with Jon Lester on the mound, the Cardinals will attempt to gain a game on the Reds. Lester hasn’t been bad since joining St. Louis, but he hasn’t been good either.
A Drive into Deep Left Field by Castellanos
Offensively, the Reds have been led by Nick Castellanos, Jesse Winker, and Joey Votto amongst others. Castellanos and Winker could end up with some MVP votes in 2021.
Since the start of the season, the Reds pitching staff has been pretty lights out. At one point in time, Luis Castillo was basically their worst starter, but just like clockwork, the weather gets warm and so does Castillo’s arm. He’s been really good since the end of May.
After sweeping the Marlins last week, the Reds then lost back-to-back series to the Brewers and the Marlins. With Castillo on the mound in an important series, they look to get back on track Monday night.
Reds Roll the Redbirds
With Luis Castillo on the mound against an extremely inconsistent offense, look for them to keep St. Louis’ offense in check. Castellanos and Votto will once again have a great series.
St. Louis just doesn’t have the staff to catch the Reds in the standings. Take the Reds on the run line at -1.5. Be sure and check Online Betting Sports for more bets and better odds on Monday evening.
The Picks:
- Reds -1.5
