  • St. Louis is 52-43 against the run line so far this season.
  • Cincinnati is 42-49 against the run line so far this year.
  • The Reds are 19-27 against the run line at their home field.
  • The Cardinals are 25-20 against the run line when playing on the road.
  • St. Louis is 25-22 against the run line at their home field.
  • Cincinnati is 36-38 against the run line on the road.

The St. Louis Cardinals (50-44) and Cincinnati Reds (34-57) prepare to square off in a Friday night matchup. The Reds will host the Cardinals after playing them on the road last week. However, St. Louis remains the favorite despite playing in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati has lost three of their last four games overall. They most recently lost two games to the Cardinals.

The Cardinals are 2-4 over their past four games. St. Louis is attempting to battle back in a tight NL Central race. They will aim to take care of business against the Reds in this weekend series.

The first pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST on Friday at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds Odds

TeamsMoneylineTotalRun Line
Cardinals-141O/10-1.5
Reds+130U/10+1.5

The Cardinals are the favorites in this matchup. St. Louis has been the better team in 2022 and has a chance to take care of business this weekend. They are in line to cover the run line and moneyline.

The Reds are a home underdog which always leaves upset potential. However, defeating this Cardinals ball club won’t be easy by any means.

Adam Wainwright (6-7, 3.00) takes the mound for St. Louis. Graham Ashcraft (4-2, 4.45) is the scheduled starter for Cincinnati. By that pitching matchup alone, it’s no wonder why the Cardinals are the favorites.

Wainwright continues to pitch well and could have been an All-Star. Some may argue he was snubbed.

Ashcraft has shown decent potential at times this season. Overall, he has labored for the most part.

Let’s go ahead and take a look at the odds and predictions for this NL Central Friday night matchup.

St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds Betting Preview

St. Louis Cardinals Preview

The Cardinals have enjoyed a solid season. However, they have dealt with tons of injuries which have hampered their overall production. St. Louis needs to get healthy soon.

Nonetheless, this is a ball club with enough talent to get by in the meantime.

The Cardinals won their last two games prior to the All-Star game.

St. Louis is a well-balanced team overall. They are eighth in batting average, eighth in OBP, 11th in slugging, sixth in runs scored, and 14th in home runs.

The Cardinals are 10th in team ERA, 16th in WHIP, 17th in batting average against, and ninth in home runs allowed.

St. Louis has a strong bullpen which has helped them win games. And they will roll with veteran Adam Wainwright on Friday in this contest. Wainwright should not face much trouble against the Reds.

Cincinnati Reds Preview

The Reds, as aforementioned, had dropped two consecutive games against St. Louis prior to the All-Star break.

Cincinnati is one of the worst teams in MLB. They are going to be sellers ahead of the MLB trade deadline. Luis Castillo and Brandon Drury are just a few names expected to be traded in the coming weeks.

The trade rumors could have an effect on the Reds’ play over the next couple of weeks. Staying focused on the task at hand will be difficult without question.

The Reds’ offense has been their strength this year. They are 18th in batting average, 20th in OBP, 25th in slugging percentage, 18th in runs, and 23rd in home runs. Their offense could give Wainwright some trouble… but I would not count on it.

Graham Ashcraft is the starter for the Reds on Friday. He hasn’t been great but is capable of keeping the Reds in ballgames. It will be interesting to see how he fares against the Red Birds in this contest.

Injury Report

Both the Reds and Cardinals have a plethora of injuries. Their injuries have played a major role in both of their seasons so far in 2022.

For the Reds, Albert Almora Jr and Aristides Aquino are both on the 10-day IL. Almora Jr is on the Covid-IL, and Aquino has a strained left calf.

Ross Detwiler, Luis Cessa, Aramis Garcia, Tyler Mahle, and Art Warren are all on the 15-day IL. Vladimir Gutierez and Lucas Sims are both on the 60-day IL.

Cincinnati is trying to get everybody healthy.

For the Cardinals, Juan Yepez is on the 10-day IL with a right forearm strain.

Harrison Bader is on the 10-day IL but could return soon. Drew VerHagen and Dakota Hudson are both on the 15-day IL. Yadier Molina is also on the 10-day IL.

Jack Flaherty is still on the 60-day IL. St. Louis is hoping he can return at some point in August.

Getting healthy is of the utmost importance for the Cardinals as they try to catch the Brewers in the NL Central.

St. Louis Cardinals at Cincinnati Reds Picks and Predictions

We should be in for an exciting match! The Cardinals are the obvious favorites despite playing on the road. But should you roll with them as your betting pick?

Yes. Adam Wainwright should receive plenty of run support and lead the Cardinals to a victory. Expect an overall solid performance from St. Louis on Friday.

Prop bets: Take the over on Adam Wainwright’s strikeout totals.

Take Paul Goldschmidt to hit a home run on Friday night. Cincinnati is a hitter-friendly park, and Goldy has been swinging a hot bat as of late.

The Pick: Roll with the St. Louis Cardinals -1.5 in this Friday night ball game.
