  • The Kansas City Royals are 68-74 against the run line this season.
  • The Minnesota Twins are 63-77 against the run line this year.
  • The Royals are 32-35 against the run line when playing on the road.
  • The Twins are 32-41 against the run line when playing at their home field.
  • Kansas City is 59-59 against the run line as an underdog this year.
  • Minnesota is 38-48 against the run line as a favorite this season.

Kansas City Royals (57-85) and Minnesota Twins (70-70) will go head-to-head in an American League Central matchup on Wednesday.

The Twins were able to climb back to the .500 mark following their Tuesday victory over the Royals. It was a quality rebound after getting swept by the Guardians over the weekend. But Minnesota will need to get red hot if they want to make a push towards the playoffs.

Kansas City is simply trying to play the role of spoiler in this series. They are already out of contention, but the Royals have the ability to spoil the Twins’ season as well.

There is motivation on both sides entering Wednesday’s affair.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:40 PM EST on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We should be in for an exciting match!

The Twins enter as unsurprising favorites for the game. But Minnesota has labored as of late, and the Royals feature a pesky roster more than capable of upsetting the odds.

The Twins are undeniably the team to beat. They feature a better roster and have a home-field advantage. But they cannot afford to take Kansas City for granted.

This could end up being a competitive ball game in Minnesota on Wednesday.

Kansas City Royals at Minnesota Twins Betting Preview

Kansas City Royals Preview

The Royals are 4-6 over the course of their last ten games. That isn’t an impressive mark, but it also is not awful. Kansas City has been playing a mediocre brand of baseball as of late.

They lost Tuesday’s game 6-3. But the Royals entered the ninth inning trailing 6-0 after Minnesota carried a no-hitter into the eighth. Kansas City displayed no shortage of heart and determination and scored three runs in the ninth inning.

The Royals’ offense may be able to build off of that momentum on Wednesday. On the season, the Royals lineup is ranked 14th in batting average, 23rd in OBP, 26th in slugging percentage, 24th in runs scored, and 26th in home runs.

The hitters have the ability to put the bat on the ball and contain their strikeout numbers. But they don’t hit for much power and aren’t great at driving runs in.

Pitching-wise, KC is 27th in ERA, 30th in WHIP, 21st in home runs allowed, and 29th in batting average against.

Can the Royals upset the odds? Their ATS spread numbers don’t suggest much reason for hope. But they do hold a .500 mark as underdogs.

Additionally, the Royals are sending veteran RHP Zack Greinke (4-8, 4.00) to the mound on Wednesday. Greinke has endured a subpar season but will look to guide KC to a win in this one.

Minnesota Twins Preview

The Twins need to win. That’s all there is to it.

Minnesota is sinking in the MLB standings with the Guardians and White Sox turning the AL Central into a two-horse race. Expect Minnesota to play with a chip on their shoulder against the Royals.

On the season, the Twins are 12th in batting average, 10th in OBP, 11th in slugging percentage, 17th in runs scored, and 13th in home runs. Meanwhile, they are 19th in team ERA, 14th in WHIP, 25th in home runs surrendered, and 13th in batting average.

Joe Ryan carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Tuesday against the Royals. But manager Rocco Baldelli made the decision to remove him from the game due to the high pitch count.

But one has to wonder if Ryan’s sparkling outing will give Minnesota a burst of energy. They had the wind taken out of their sails over the weekend when they were swept by Cleveland. Any kind of momentum they can get right now will be crucial.

The Twins will roll with RHP Sonny Gray (7-4, 3.09) on Wednesday. Gray is a reliable option for the Twins. They are counting on him to get the job done in this contest.

Injury Report

For the Royals, pitchers Josh Staumont and Taylor Clarke are both on the 15-day IL. Their timetables are unclear at the moment.

For the most part, Kansas City is healthy, with the exception of a few long-term injuries. Their issue has not been health; rather, it has been inexperience and underperformance.

For the Twins, Chris Archer was placed on the 15-day IL with a pectoral injury; Archer was pulled from Saturday’s game against the Guardians after feeling discomfort. He believes he will only stay the minimum amount of time on the injured list.

Tyler Mahle is also on the IL. He was placed on the 15-day IL with a shoulder injury last week. His timetable is unclear.

Kansas City Royals at Minnesota Twins Picks and Predictions

Which team should you roll with in this game? Are the Royals going to upset the odds, or can Minnesota win their second straight contest?

Zack Greinke is a trustworthy option. The Royals should be able to provide him with a decent amount of run support as well. Sonny Gray may also pitch well, but the Twins bullpen has a plethora of question marks.

The Pick:

Go ahead and take the Kansas City Royals +1.5 with your MLB betting selection in this AL Central affair.
