The Rockies enter this series as the clear underdogs. They have labored all season long but do pitch better on the road. However, their offense is far worse when playing away from Coors Field.
So there are certainly pros and cons to this series for Colorado.
But the lack of offense from Colorado is the main reason for the implied run total. At 7.5 runs, that seems like a fairly easy mark to bet the over on. However, don’t be surprised if this ends up being a low-scoring game.
In the end, I expect this to end up being a total of right around seven or eight. So choosing to take the over or under will be difficult. However, I would go ahead and place my bet on the over.

The Rockies have struggled this year without question. They are fresh off of a 2-1 series loss against the Diamondbacks.
The Rockies and Cardinals went head-to-head last week in Colorado as well. Surprisingly, the Rockies actually took two out of three from the Cardinals. So they have shown the ability to compete with this St. Louis ball club in the past.
But this will undeniably be a very different circumstance. Taking on the Cardinals in Busch Stadium is never an easy task. So the Rockies will have their backs against the wall this week in St. Louis.
We discussed the Rockies’ road woes earlier. However, they sport a respectable 27-27 record when playing away from home this season. So from a betting standpoint, they have not been a terrible team to roll on the road.
And the Rockies are 53-39 when playing as an underdog. So they certainly have the potential to upset the odds in any given scenario.
The Rockies may be lackluster overall, but they aren’t a bad team against the run line.
Colorado will send LHP Kyle Freeland (7-8, 4.84) to the mound. Freeland may be able to provide the Rockies with a solid outing away from Colorado on Tuesday.
St. Louis Cardinals Preview
The Cardinals won a big series against the Brewers over the weekend. After splitting the first two games, Sunday represented a crucial rubber match. But Albert Pujols blasted two home runs to lead St. Louis to a much-needed victory.
St. Louis enters this series with Colorado riding high following that series win. It will be interesting to see if they can carry the momentum into the week.
As aforementioned, the Cardinals ran into some trouble with these Rockies a week ago. But they will feel better about their chances of winning in front of the home faithful.
On the season, the Cardinals are an impressive 64-50 against the run line. They are 34-24 against the run line when playing at home and 33-28 against the run line as a favorite. So they have also been good against the run line in 2022.
So they will feel confident about their chances of covering on Tuesday.
LHP Jose Quintana (4-5, 3.37) is the scheduled starter for St. Louis in this game. Quintana has been effective this season between the Pirates and Cardinals. He isn’t a dominant starter at this point in his career, but he’s a reliable option.
Injury Report
For the Rockies, both Yonathan Daza and Elias Diaz are on the 10-day IL. Meanwhile, Alex Colome and Chad Kuhl are on the 15-day IL.
The notable injury is Kris Bryant. Bryant was signed during the offseason to lead Colorado. However, he’s been hit hard with injuries this season.
KB has dealt with a back and foot injury and currently is on the IL. The Rockies are hopeful he can return this year, but they are more concerned with him being completely healthy for next season since they are already out of contention.
For the Cardinals, Steven Matz is on the injured list with a knee injury. Meanwhile, Jack Flaherty continues to battle back from his shoulder injury. He’s currently rehabbing and could return in late August or September.
