Way Too Early 2022 Stanley Cup Champion Betting Odds
The start of the 2021-22 NHL season is still more than a month away, but now is a great time to take a look at the Stanley Cup Champion betting odds. The further we go into the season, the less friendly odds get for bettors, so the sooner you place your Stanley Cup futures wager, the better!
Here, we’ve broken down the betting odds into tiers to better understand where each team falls with training camp around the corner.
TOP #3 Sports Betting Sites to Bet on NHL
The Favorites
- Colorado Avalanche +400
- Tampa Bay Lightning +500
- Vegas Golden Knights +700
- Toronto Maple Leafs +1000
- Boston Bruins +1100
- Carolina Hurricanes +1200
Best Value in the Tier:
- Boston Bruins
Boston has a well-balanced roster, and with a full season of Taylor Hall on the roster, the offense could take off once again this season. They’re capable of competing with every team in this tier, and with former Buffalo Sabres goaltender Linus Ullmark in the fold, the Bruins could make a deep run this season.
Worst Value in the Tier:
- Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs haven’t won a playoff series since the 2004-05 lockout. They have an incredibly talented forward group, but there are still concerns about their defense and goaltending situations. Wait to see if this roster is capable of winning a series before placing a Stanley Cup bet.
The Contenders
- New York Islanders +2000
- Edmonton Oilers +2200
- New York Rangers +2200
- Dallas Stars +2500
- Florida Panthers +2500
- Minnesota Wild +2500
- Pittsburgh Penguins +2500
- Washington Capitals +2500
Best Value in this Tier:
- New York Islanders
The Islanders were the Eastern Conference runner-up each of the past two seasons. While losing defenseman Nick Leddy as a salary cap casualty will be a big hit to the blue line, the Isles have a ton of depth at the position and a nearly identical roster to a year ago.
Worst Value in this Tier:
- Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton has two of the Top 10, if not Top 5, players in the league in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Unfortunately, the Oilers still have a rough goaltending situation with 39-year-old Mike Smith expected as the starter.
The blueline will look quite a bit different with Duncan Keith and Cody Ceci in the fold, but the roster as a whole still isn’t good enough to win a Cup, which is a shame with how good McDavid and Draisaitl are.
The Hopefuls
- Philadelphia Flyers +3000
- Montreal Canadiens +4000
- Winnipeg Jets +4000
- Seattle Kraken +4000
- Calgary Flames +5000
- St. Louis Blues +5000
- Nashville Predators +5500
Best Value in this Tier:
- Winnipeg Jets
Winnipeg lost in the second round of the North Division playoffs last season, though part of that was due to the absence of center Mark Scheifele for most of the series as he served a suspension. They’ve got an elite goaltender in Connor Hellebuyck and a quality forward group.
Their defense can be a liability, which is why they’re down in this tier. However, this is a team that is better than their odds would indicate.
Worst Value in this Tier:
- Montreal Canadiens
After a miracle run to the Cup Final last season, the Canadiens will likely see quite a bit of action in futures betting again this year. However, with Carey Price coming off of knee surgery, Shea Weber set to miss the entire season, and returning to a stacked Atlantic Division, don’t be surprised if the Canadiens miss the playoffs altogether this time around.
The Longshots
- Vancouver Canucks +6000
- Los Angeles Kings +6000
- Chicago Blackhawks +6600
- New Jersey Devils +8000
- Ottawa Senators +8000
- San Jose Sharks +8000
The teams in this tier need virtually everything to go right to make it to the Cup FInal this year, meaning there really isn’t a great betting value among these six clubs.
The Devils got markedly better this offseason by signing free agent defenseman Dougie Hamilton and trading for Ryan Graves. Still, until their young forwards take some massive steps forward, they won’t be competing for a Cup.
The Kings are also a couple of years away with arguably the best prospect pool in the league. However, the current roster is likely once again a playoff outsider.
Don’t Waste Your Money
- Columbus Blue Jackets +10000
- Anaheim Ducks +12500
- Arizona Coyotes +12500
- Detroit Red Wings +20000
- Buffalo Sabres +25000
Like the name says, don’t waste money betting on one of the teams in this tier. Clubs at this level are competing for the #1 draft pick instead of a playoff spot. Invest elsewhere.
