Betting Odds & Lines

Bruins Look to Stay Flawless
The Bruins come into this season with a chip on their shoulder after losing in the round of eight in last year’s NHL playoffs. The 2020 Bruins team finished third in their division, just four points behind the Penguins and the Capitals. Boston was able to eliminate Washington but was taken out in the next round by the fourth place Islanders.
Brad Marchand led the 2020 team in points and has started off 2021 in a similar fashion. In the Bruins season opener, Marchand was able to find the back of the net twice. Look for Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak to start making some noise as well. In their first game, only Pastrnak recorded an assist.
Flyers Try to Stay on Track
The Flyers played a tough Vancouver Canucks team to open their season. Both teams are slated to have big years, and they came out of the gates red hot. A 4-4 tie after overtime, the Canucks had to win the game in a shootout. The Flyers clearly did not dwell on this game much as they came out just three nights later and were able to score six goals in regulation against the Kraken.
The offense is going to be what makes the Flyers successful. Joel Farabee is off to a great start recording two goals and two assists through two games. Derrick Brassard and Travis Konecny are right behind Farabee with three points each.
Goaltender Matchup
The Bruins have moved on from long-time goaltender Tuuka Rask. They will send Jeremy Swayman into the net, more than likely. Swayman spent his rookie season on the bench for the Bruins but was able to watch one of the best in the league every night. Swayman allowed just 1.5 goals per game last season in 10 games played.
Carter Hart will start his fourth season as one of Philadelphia’s top goaltenders. Last season, Hart split a lot of starts with veteran Brian Elliott. Coming into 2021, Elliott is now with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Hart looks to be the favorite to take a majority of the starts if healthy. Hart looks to improve off a 2020 season where he gave up over 3.5 goals per game.
The Pick
This will be Philadelphia’s third consecutive home game to start the season. The Bruins will be on the road for the first time. In the Flyers’ first two games that have hit the over for total goals scored. The Bruins fell under the mark in their single game.
This match seems more like a coin flip than a clear-cut favorite. Hart looked good in his first start and should get the benefit of the doubt. When making your online NHL picks, take the Philadelphia Flyers +120.
