The National Football League, in which every team tries to be in the hunt for the Super Bowl every single year. There are always going to be those teams that are much closer than others, but there is a path to getting better in a hurry in the NFL.
The NFL Draft is one way in which teams are capable of making a big move, and the 2023 NFL Draft appears to be loaded with some great players. It is the Chicago Bears that are currently on the clock for the number one overall draft pick, but that doesn’t mean that they should be holding on to that selection.
The Chicago Bears appear to be set at the quarterback position moving forward with Justin Fields, and they can get a haul by trading that pick. With that in mind, it’s time to take a look at what NFL teams might be interested in that selection and what teams should actually pull the trigger.
The Bears could actually be looking to trade this pick a couple of times, as there will be multiple teams that could have a big interest in moving up in the draft. Chicago was only able to land the number one overall pick after the Houston Texans came up with a stunning win in the final week of the regular season.

Look at the Top 10
Before we take a look at the teams that might be interested in trading up for the number one overall draft pick, it’s important to look at the teams in the Top 10. Realistically, anyone in the league can make a deal for the top draft pick, but it’s the teams in the Top 10 that have the most draft capital to get it done.
We have already mentioned that the Chicago Bears hold the top spot in the draft, but here is a look at the nine teams set to pick behind them:

- Arizona Cardinals
- Indianapolis Colts
- Seattle Seahawks
- Detroit Lions
- Las Vegas Raiders
- Atlanta Falcons
- Carolina Panthers
- Philadelphia Eagles
A number of these teams were able to get into the Top 10 due to trades in past years, but that’s not the case with every team. Some teams were able to play their way into the Top 10, and they are in need of significant help.
You will notice that the Philadelphia Eagles have a Top 10 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and they just won the NFC. They are a team that isn’t going to be considering making a trade-up in the draft.
Plenty of Quarterbacks Available
One of the biggest reasons that there will be so much movement at the top of the draft is the fact that there are some great quarterback prospects out there. This is a class that could have as many as four to five quarterbacks drafted in the first round, and there is Top 10 talent available.
C.J. Stroud is generally considered as the best quarterback available, but a couple of other quarterbacks are going to be in the mix as well. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young would be good enough to go number 1 in the NFL Draft in most years, and teams are going to be lining up to get him as well.
There are some years in which teams tend to focus on defense at the top of the draft, but that’s not going to be the case this year.
Teams That Need to Trade
The only way to guarantee to get the best overall quarterback in the draft is to trade with the Chicago Bears to earn the top overall pick. If there is a quarterback that a team really wants, then they have to be willing to make a move and get that number one overall selection.
About half of the league could use a player as good as Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud, but these three teams from the Top 10 could really use a trade.
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans had a great chance to pick up the number one overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but they won a game that they needed to lose. Houston was starting Davis Mills at quarterback during the 2022 season, and he’s not a quarterback that is going to carry a franchise.
Houston would only have to move up one spot to get the top overall pick, and that means that it wouldn’t take a big package to get that done. The Texans do have to guard against another team trying to jump them and make a deal with the Bears, and that is really the only way that they would be forced to pay a steep price.
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts have been trying to find a full-time quarterback since Andrew Luck suddenly retired, and the best way to get that done is going to be through the draft. Indianapolis thought that Matt Ryan would be the answer during the 2022 season, but that ended in a disaster.
The Colts now have a new head coach in place, and it would be the perfect time to bring in a new starting quarterback. Indianapolis doesn’t have to move up very far to get to the top pick, and the Colts appear to be the most desperate team in the Top 10.
Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons appeared to be in the mix to land Lamar Jackson this offseason, but they have decided against that signing. That puts the Falcons in the market for a new starting quarterback, and moving up in the 2023 NFL Draft is the best way to get that accomplished.
One thing that hurts the Falcons is that they would have to jump up from number 8 to get that done, and the Bears might not want to fall down that far in the draft. Atlanta could get another team involved in a trade, though, and that might make them an attractive trade partner with the Bears.
