Houston Texans Betting Preview: Houston Encouraging in Fourth Straight Defeat
The Texans opened some eyes last week when they got out to a hot start against the Patriots scoring 22 points in the first three quarters. However, the inexperience of the offense showed when they were unable to move the ball in the fourth quarter leading to a loss.
Davis Mills, the rookie quarterback out of Stanford, was the breakout player of the game. After recording just 357 yards in his first three starts combined, the rookie ripped off 312 yards against the Patriots, along with three touchdowns.
This is encouraging for the offense that put up just nine total points in the last two weeks combined. Keep your eye on the ML +350 at Bovada.
Houston’s defense remains one of the lower-level units in the league after making some critical mistakes that led to their loss against the Pats. After limiting the Patriots’ offense in the first half, they let Mac Jones and the running game heat up and walk all over them in the second half.
The defense is allowing opponents 28.2 points per game and a whopping 391 yards of total offense. The rushing attack in particular needs help conceding over 134 yard per game on the ground. The secondary has been better, allowing opposing quarterbacks 257 yards through the air, and the unit has collected an impressive six interceptions.
Additionally, the special teams had a huge miscue that led to a score when they had a punt bounce off one of their own players. They will need to clean it up against the Colts in a tough AFC South matchup on the road.
Indianapolis Colts Betting Preview: Colts Trending In Right Direction
The Colts dropped their fourth game of the season in disappointing fashion after taking Lamar Jackson and the Ravens to the brink in an overtime loss. The good news is that the offense put together their best performance of 2021 so far, securing 525 yards of total offense.
The offense is starting to come together with Veteran Quarterback Carson Wentz accounting for 402 yards through the air, including two touchdowns, while running back Jonathan Taylor recorded a season-best 169 total yards along with two scores.
The Indianapolis defense has been historically strong with playmakers like DeForest Buckner, Xavier Rhodes, and first-rounder Kwity Paye. In 2021, the defense hasn’t been terrible, ranking fifth in turnovers.
The secondary is their strength right now, allowing opposing quarterbacks 260 yards per game, but they have inflated rushing numbers giving up 108.4 yards per game after facing the Browns and Ravens.
Keep your eye on the kicking game after forger Georgia Bulldog Rodrigo Blankenship missed an extra point in the third quarter, as well as having a kick blocked that would have put the Colts up by two possessions. To make matters worse, Blankenship missed a game-winner in the fourth quarter.
Texans vs Colts Prediction
Both teams are 1-4 heading into this AFC South matchup and are coming off of narrow losses in week six. Both teams showed fight, with Texans putting together their best offensive performance of the season and the Colts giving Baltimore a big scare.
It comes down to veteran presence and home-field advantage. Frank Reich has the Colts coming together offensively, and their defense is more than capable of handling an inexperienced Texan offense.
The Texans rebounded nicely offensively, but their defense is allowing 392 yards per game and will face an offense that just put 525 yards against the Ravens. They won’t be able to compete on the road.
I like the Colts in this one, and you can check out all NFL betting odds and lines on BOVADA.
