Miami Dolphins Betting Preview: Dolphins Look To Overcome Struggles On Both Sides Of The Ball
The Dolphins come into this game having lost four straight contests since their opening win against the Patriots. A big part of their losing streak is their inability to be effective on defense. That was the storyline last week against the Buccaneers after they were gashed for over 550 yards and six total touchdowns.
“We didn’t execute our game plan defensively. Just collectively as a defense we just didn’t do enough. I’m concerned. We’re out of sync,” Miami coach Brian Flores said.
Coming into the year, the Dolphins were expected to have one of the top defenses in the league but haven’t played up to their potential. Miami’s secondary, which includes star cornerbacks Xavien Howard and Bryon Jones, was absolutely shredded last week allowing 411 yards through the air. The 30th ranked defense is conceding a whopping 422.2 yards to opponents and 30.8 points.
The offense has fared much better without the presence of their starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Miami’s offense is managing to score a minuscule 15.8 points and averaging just 261 total yards.
The Dolphin ground game, in particular, has been horrendous especially after gaining just 39 total yards on the ground. The rushing attack is averaging a league-worst 70.4 yards per game.
Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Preview: Jags Hope To Get First Win In London
The Jacksonville Jaguars have now become the first team since 1977 to lose 20 consecutive games. Last Sunday the Jags didn’t put up much of a fight on defense allowing Derrick Henry to run all over them to the tune of 130 yards and three touchdowns. The 28th ranked defense in the league allowed 37 points to Jacksonville including no less than 23 points in each game.
The offense had its best game statistically but things went south from the beginning with a fumble on their first possession that was scooped up for a score. Jacksonville put together 381 yards of total offense, their best statistical game of the year. Trevor Lawrence threw for 273 yards and totaled two touchdowns, however, he threw his league-leading eighth interception.
A big reason for the Jags offensive breakout starts with running back James Robinson. Robinson was the lone bright spot last week when he recorded 149 yards and a score on 18 carries. He adds a different dynamic to the offense that should open up more opportunities for Lawrence under center.
Dolphins vs Jaguars Prediction
Both the Dolphins and the Jaguars are struggling, combining to lose nine straight games in 2021. The Dolphins are coming off a terrible loss to the Bucs and are dealing with a plethora of injuries. In the same fashion, the Jaguars seem to be in the same boat with the horrible play and added drama from their head coach Urban Meyer.
I think this one comes down to who has more to play for. The Jaguars traded away one of their best cornerbacks at the start of the season and are in complete rebuild mode. The Dolphins have a more talented team and Brian Flores should be able to get this team back on track.
I like the Dolphins in this one, and you can check out all NFL betting odds and lines on BOVADA.
