The Celtics dropped a heartbreaker at home against the Spurs in a 99-97 defeat. Boston is now just 4-6 in their last ten games, and they currently place outside of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference.
The Knicks last played on Tuesday when they took down the Pacers at home by a final tally of 104-94. New York has won six of its past ten contests.
These have been two of the most disappointing organizations so far during the 2021-2022 campaign. Both had high expectations entering the season, and now both find themselves below .500 here in January. With that being said, this should be a competitive game on Thursday.

The Celtics lost to an underwhelming San Antonio Spurs team on Wednesday night. Despite a 30 point effort from Jaylen Brown, Boston still came up short in the end. However, it was Brown who almost saved the day.
With just over five seconds remaining and San Antonio needing to inbound the ball, Brown leaped in front of the pass and came up with a steal. But he was met with quality defense at the rim and was ultimately denied a game-tying layup.
The loss was one of the more frustrating defeats of the season for the Celtics.
One issue that has continued to loom over the Celtics is their assists numbers. They rank just 22nd in assists per game, and their two stars tend to struggle when it comes to sharing the basketball.
They combined for just four total assists between the two of them on Thursday. Tatum and Brown also rarely assist one another on shots. There seems to be a lack of genuine chemistry between the two stars.
But there is no question that Boston has been negatively affected by this style of play. The Celtics are just 9-11 this season when Brown and Tatum are both on the floor.
Inefficiency is another issue for the Celtics. The team ranks just 23rd in field goal percentage and 24th in three-point shooting percentage.
Between missed shots and an inability to share the ball, there is legitimate cause for concern in Boston.

The Knicks were able to overcome a strong effort from the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday to capture a home victory. Julius Randle scored 30 points to go along with 16 rebounds, while R.J. Barret added 32 points and eight rebounds in the win.
Offensively, New York had a tale of two stories on Tuesday.
On the one hand, they shot 48.8 percent from the floor as a team. Both Randle and Barret took 20 shots and made 12 of them. It was a solid day inside the three-point line for the Knicks.
But the other hand does not look so pretty. New York shot an abysmal 21.4 percent from beyond the arc in the game. Alec Burks and Evan Fournier combined to finish 0-8 from three.
New York is also a lackluster assisting team, as they rank 29th in assists per game. But Randle is averaging 4.9 assists per game which leads the team. The big man has done a tremendous job of being more than just a scorer and has been able to consistently get his teammates involved.
The Knicks have the potential to be a solid team. Kemba Walker is expected to return from a knee injury soon, and the duo Barret and Randle has developed into a lethal combination. While this is far from a perfect team, it will be interesting to see if the Knicks can make a run as the season progresses.
