The Sixers had to postpone their last scheduled game against New Orleans because of a covid outbreak amongst the team. However, they are hopeful to play against the Celtics on Monday. But they will be undermanned even if they are able to play.
This does not bode well for a team that has dealt with their struggles this season, even with a healthy roster.
The Sixers rank 20th in points per game, 30th in rebounds per game, and 24th in assists per game. They fail to score points at any form of impressive rate since they struggle to crash the glass and find open teammates for shots.
But why are they faltering so mightily in these statistical departments?
Other than the center duo of Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond, the team does not have any other tremendous rebounders. Embiid has averaged 10.9 boards per game while Drummond has posted a rebounds per game average of 9.3 this year. Tobias Harris has been solid as well, with 7.7 rebounds per game.
But nobody else in the team is grabbing more than three and a half rebounds per contest.
In terms of assists, the lackluster numbers are a product of Ben Simmons not playing. Simmons led the team last season with 6.9 dimes per game and is one of the better passers in the league. This year, nobody on the team has more than five assists per contest.
The 76ers will need to improve in these categories as the season progresses.

All of the errant shots have been confident killers for this Boston team. They need to develop efficiency at the scoring end before it is too late.
The Celtics also rank just 20th in assists per game. This is understandable since isolations are not going to provide teams with a high amount of assist opportunities. Perhaps they would be better suited to try passing the ball around more and looking to get teammates open looks at the basket.
With all of this being said, I believe credit should be given to Jayston Tatum. The star has averaged 26.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game and has carried the Celtics on his back for much of the season, even when Jaylen Brown was dealing with an injury.
Look for Tatum to play a big role in Monday night’s contest.
