  • The Seattle Mariners are 85-79 against the run line this season.
  • The Houston Astros are 86-76 against the run line this year.
  • The Mariners are 49-34 against the run line when playing on the road.
  • The Astros are 41-40 against the run line when playing at their home field.
  • Seattle is 50-30 against the run line as an underdog.
  • Houston is 70-71 against the run line as a favorite.

The Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros will be butting heads on Tuesday, in Game 1 of the ALDS.

The Mariners upset the Blue Jays in Toronto to clinch a spot in the ALDS. Their reward? A match-up with the impressive Houston Astros.

The Astros were the best team in baseball other than the Los Angeles Dodgers. Houston ran the American League and is the favorite to reach the World Series.

However, we have seen many favorites falter during the post-season in the past. Can Houston take care of business against the pesky Mariners in Game 1 of this series?

The first pitch is scheduled for 3:37 PM EST on Tuesday, October 11th, at Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX.

The official odds have not yet been released for this game.

However, the Astros are the favorites at home against the Mariners. Houston enjoyed a spectacular 2022 regular season that set them up well for a deep MLB playoff run.

This series projects to be exciting. Houston cruised to an AL West division victory, but the Mariners still have enough talent to make things interesting in this ALDS.

Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros: Betting Preview

Betting on Seattle Mariners

The Mariners played two very different types of games against the Blue Jays over the weekend.

In Game 1, Luis Castillo led them to a 4-0 victory. The game was defined by pitching and defense, as Seattle earned a huge Game 1 win.

Game 2 was defined by an improbable comeback.

The Mariners found themselves down by seven runs at one point before clawing back into the contest. Seattle ultimately retook the lead and never looked back, winning by a final score of 10-9.

It was a gritty performance from a team that proved they have World Series aspirations. Some people worried that their motivation would have vanished after snapping a 20-plus-year playoff drought. But the Mariners are here to stay.

Seattle’s starting pitcher has not yet been announced for the Game of the ALDS, but they are confident their pitching can lead them to an upset victory.

The Mariners rank eighth in team ERA, seventh in WHIP, and 10th in batting average against. Containing the Astros’ deep lineup is never an easy task, but Seattle is going to need to find yet another way to hold up in order to defeat Houston.

Betting on Houston Astros

The Astros have been one of baseball’s most consistent teams over the past six years. However, they have just one World Series title to show for it, despite making it to the Fall Classic during that span on three separate occasions.

But they have every intention of adding another World Series trophy to the mantle in 2022. First, they will need to trudge through the wake of a Mariners team that made a habit out of upsetting the odds this season.

Houston finished the year ranking 12th in team batting average, seventh in OBP, fifth in slugging percentage, eighth in runs scored, and fourth in home runs. On the pitching side of the equation, they were second in ERA, second in WHIP, and second in batting average against.

To summarize, the Astros feature a very good lineup and an elite pitching staff. Justin Verlander is the expected starter for Game 1.

The veteran right-hander was terrific in 2022 and will likely win the AL Cy Young award, barring unforeseen circumstances. But his main focus is on getting the job done in the postseason.

The Astros’ style of play bodes well for their chances against the Mariners, but they can’t afford to take them for granted. Seattle is the kind of team that pounces when one least expects it… just ask the Blue Jays.

Injury Report

The Mariners were hit with a Jesse Winker neck injury ahead of the playoffs. He’s on the 10-day IL, and his timetable is currently unclear.

Sam Haggerty was placed on the 10-day IL with a groin strain the day before Winker joined him on the IL. Haggerty was reportedly spotted on crutches and is expected to miss the playoffs.

The Astros are mostly healthy heading into their postseason run. They did lose Michael Brantley mid-season to a season-ending injury; the Brantley injury made the Trey Mancini acquisition even more important, without a doubt.

Seattle Mariners at Houston Astros: Picks & Predictions

Which of these teams should you place your money on? Are the Astros going to cover the run line, or can the Mariners pull off yet another major upset?

Seattle will likely keep this game competitive throughout. They have no shortage of confidence heading into Houston, and they truly believe they can upset the odds.

In the end, the Astros’ veteran prowess and postseason experience provide them with a crucial advantage that should lead to a win.

But don’t be surprised if the Mariners give them a serious run for their money. This has the potential to be a very entertaining series that could very well go all five games.

However, Houston is the pick to click in Game 1, especially if Justin Verlander is on the mound for the Astros.

The Pick:

Go ahead and take the Houston Astros -1.5 with your Game 1 ALDS playoff betting pick.
