The Brewers have played well as of late and most recently took two out of three games against the New York Yankees at home. The Brewers are still in the NL Wild Card race and currently sit two games behind the Phillies and 2.5 games behind the Padres.

With the NL East and NL Wild Card on the line, this Mets and Brewers series will go a long way in determining the NL playoff picture.

New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview

New York Mets Preview

The New York Mets are playing an inspired brand of baseball right now. The Braves are sticking around in the divisional race, but the Mets continue to hold onto their lead.

The Mets will likely make the playoffs whether they win the division or not. But New York wants to do everything they can to win the division rather than settle for a Wild Card spot.

The Mets did exactly what they were supposed to do over the weekend. They hosted the lowly Pirates and took care of business.

The only real close game came on Friday. New York squeezed out a 4-3 victory over Pittsburgh but were unable to cover the run line.

However, they won in convincing fashion in all three of the other games, therefore covering the run line in each of those games as well.

The Mets’ offense has been impressive this year. Pete Alonso is having an especially good campaign, as the first baseman has slugged 35 home runs and owns a .506 slugging percentage.

New York’s offense as a team is fourth in batting average, second in OBP, eighth in slugging percentage, fifth in runs scored, and 15th in home runs.

Pitching-wise, they are seventh in team ERA and seventh in team WHIP. Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer have been excellent despite dealing with injury trouble.

Scherzer (9-4, 2.26) is the scheduled starter for the Mets. The right-hander is making his return from injury in this game.

Milwaukee Brewers Preview

The Brewers are in the midst of an extremely difficult stretch of games. Last week, they had a two-game set with the Cardinals. Milwaukee walked away from that quick series with a split.

Milwaukee then played host to the Yankees over the weekend. The Brewers played well and won two out of three games.

Milwaukee upset the odds in Game 1 and won in Walk-off fashion on Friday. They followed that thriller up with a 4-1 victory on Saturday before losing 12-8 on Sunday.

The Brewers’ challenging schedule continues with the Mets coming into town. They will have to continue playing well as they look to jump back into playoff contention.

Their offense is 21st in batting average, 12th in OBP, eighth in slugging, 10th in runs, and third in home runs. Meanwhile, the Brewers’ pitching ranks 15th in ERA and 10th in WHIP.

Corbin Burnes (10-7, 2.97) is the scheduled starter for Milwaukee in the ball game. The reigning NL Cy Young winner will look to out-duel Max Scherzer on Monday in what should be a pitcher’s duel.

Injury Report

Max Scherzer is set to return for the Mets on Monday. He’d previously been on the 15-day IL due to left-side irritation.

Mychael Givens was recently placed on the COVID IL. Starling Marte fractured his finger last week and is on the 10-day IL.

For the Brewers, Freddy Peralta was placed on the IL last week because of shoulder fatigue. Eric Lauer is also on the IL due to elbow inflammation. The Brewers are hoping to have both back sooner rather than later, but their timetables are unclear.

New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers Picks and Predictions

Which of these teams should you place your money on? Can the Brewers upset the odds at home, or will the Mets get the job done?

For those who love a well-pitched game, this will be a contest for you. Max Scherzer and Corbin Burnes are two of MLB‘s best pitchers and are set to square off.

In the end, this very well may end up being a one-run game. Whether the Brewers win or lose, they should be able to upset the spread.

The Pick:

Go ahead and take the Milwaukee Brewers +1.5 with your MLB betting selection in this Monday night National League matchup.
