Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview

The Brewers and Cardinals will close out their three-game series this evening. Brewers look to sweep the Cardinals and put themselves at almost untouchable status in the National League Central Division.

The Cardinals took a 3-0 lead into the fourth inning last night before the Brewers started to chip away. Scoring a single run in the fourth and fifth, then tying it in the ninth. The Brewers never went away and would go on to win the game 6-4 in extra innings.

This will be the ninth game these two have played each other this season, with the Brewers holding the advantage 5-3. After tonight’s game, these two teams will still have ten games left to play each other.

The pitching matchup for tonight will highlight the Brewers’ ace Brandon Woodruff taking on Cardinals’ newcomer Jon Lester.

Milwaukee looks to add more Separation

The Brewers are currently 9.5 games up against the Reds and 12 games up against the Cardinals. While those are currently great for Milwaukee, the ten games left to play each other has to be on the back of their minds.

The best part about the Brewers is their blue-collar approach to the game this season. Yes, they have a few good names, but their superstar Christian Yelich has been less than impressive this year, but this team still wins. They do not have a single player hitting over .290. Pitching and defense has kept this team atop the pyramid.

Cardinals have to let Shildt go

After watching the game last evening, the biggest issue in the Cardinals clubhouse right now is poor baseball game management. Sending out a closer, who has had some struggles as of late, for a second inning of work was just a poor play. Pitching to Yelich with the opposing team’s pitcher on the mound was a bad decision.

While Shildt can not take all the blame, the team did not score for seven of the ten innings. The ninth inning saw Tommy Edman take a slider to his back ankle to lead off the inning for the Cardinals. Edman is one of the fastest players on the team, and in a tie game situation, would love to get him to scoring position with his wheels, but unfortunately, he was stranded there, and the Cardinals would go on to lose it in the tenth.

Brandon Woodruff takes the mound for the Brewers

One of the best starters in all of baseball this season, Woodruff will look to finish up his regular season in great fashion. While his record is not the most outstanding, 7-6, he is third in baseball with a 2.18 era and second in baseball with a .90 WHIP.

In his last six starts, Woodruff has combined to give up just nine earned runs. He has also only walked 11 batters while striking out 38. He went 7.2 last time against the Cardinals, giving up just one run and striking out 11.

On the bump for St. Louis will be Jon Lester

Lester makes his fourth start for the Cardinals this evening. Acquired at the trade deadline, Lester joins a pitching staff with several pitching injuries. In his first two starts, Lester was not good. Making it just 10.1 innings and giving up 11 earned runs combined.

His most recent start saw Lester go 5.2 and only allow a single run. Lester is a pitch-to-contact style of pitcher. He does not throw overly hard, but from the left side of the mound, he has a lot of late movement on pitches that makes him effective when he is on.

Brewers Win

The Milwaukee Brewers are clearly the better team here. The hard-throwing Woodruff will more than likely shut down the Cardinals, again, and make hitters look foolish all game. Make sure to check out Online Betting Sports for all your MLB picks.
