Packers Face Bengals In Battle Of Playoff Contenders

One of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time takes the field to face one of the best up-and-coming signal-callers on Sunday when the Green Bay Packers visit the Cincinnati Bengals. This battle is set to kick off at 1 pm ET at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are 3-1, having won three straight, including a 27-17 home win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last weekend. Green Bay is atop the NFC North standings, leading the Chicago Bears by a game.

Second-year quarterback Joe Burrow and Cincinnati are a surprising 3-1 as well after a 24-21 win over Jacksonville on Sept. 30. The Bengals are in a three-way tie atop the AFC North with the Baltimore Ravens and the Cleveland Browns.

The BetUS Sportsbook has the Packers as three-point favorites for this game, with the over/under set at 50.5 points. The Bengals get a little more respect at Betonline, where they’re only a 2.5-point underdog if you’re doing online betting, though the 50.5-point over/under is the same.

Starting To Roll

There were some questions about the Packers after a season-opening loss to New Orleans, but they’ve rebounded with three straight wins to creep back among the favorites to win the NFC. As usual, Rodgers has been leading the way, passing for 897 yards and eight touchdowns.

Rodgers struggled in the loss to the Saints, with no touchdowns and two interceptions, but he’s turned it around since, with no interceptions over the last three contests. He did get sacked three times against Pittsburgh for the second time in three games, as he’s been sacked eight times this season.

Despite the winning record, Green Bay has some troubles running the ball. The Packers are averaging just 92.5 rushing yards this season, with Aaron Jones leading the way with 206 yards and two scores.

Defensively, the Packers are tied for 19th in the NFL Odds in points per game allowed with 25.0 per game. Green Bay will need to tighten things up against a Bengals offense that is passing for 247 yards per game.

Young Gun

Burrow is showing no ill effects of the knee injury that cut short his rookie season, passing for 988 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the Bengals to their best start since 2018. Burrow has four interceptions and has been sacked 11 times, though only one of those has come in the last two games.

Running back Joe Mixon has been a consistent ground threat for Cincinnati, rushing for 353 yards and two touchdowns, but he’s considered questionable for this game. Mixon has an injured ankle and did not participate in practice this NFL week.

Rookie Ja’Marr Chase has been an explosive weapon for the Bengals, making 25 catches for 297 yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Tyler Boyd is also a threat, making a team-high 23 receptions with 259 yards and a score.

The Bengals’ defense will need to get pressure on Rodgers to try to keep him from picking apart the secondary. Cincinnati is tied for eighth in the league with 11 sacks through four games.

Cincinnati Pulls Upset

The Packers are winning, but not by much. Green Bay’s last two wins have been by a total of 12 points, and it is just 1-1 on the road, with a 35-point loss to the Saints and a last-second, two-point win over the 49ers.

Cincinnati is playing with confidence right now, and the Packers could have some trouble shutting down the Bengals’ passing attack. This game should be close, with Burrow and his squad pulling out the win at the end, beating the NFL odds.
