San Francisco Giants vs. New York Mets Betting Preview

The Giants and Mets will play the second game of their three-game series this evening. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. eastern from Citi Field.

The Giants were able to handle the Mets with relative ease yesterday, winning game one of the series 8-0. Every starter in the Giants’ lineup was able to collect at least a single hit, even the starting pitcher. The Mets collected five hits total, and Pete Alonso had two of them.

The Giants are looking to keep their first place position in the NL West with a winning series. The Mets, currently six and a half games out of first in the NL East, have to start putting wins together if they are going to find a way to make the playoffs.

Giants Using the Momentum for Game Two

The Giants are one of the best teams in baseball in 2021. They are a top ten team in runs per game, 4.98, top ten in team batting average, .247, and second in overall team ERA at 3.27. The team’s ability to be good offensively as well as defensively was on full display last night. Shutting a team out in a professional sport is never an easy task, but the Mets had no answer for the Giant’s pitching staff.

The Giants have several players who are having great offensive seasons. Their veteran catcher, Buster Posey, is in his 11th season for the Giants and having another great year. He is hitting .314 with almost 30 extra-base hits. The team’s shortstop is also having a career year, hitting .300 with 19 home runs. His career-high is 21, which he is on pace to break here in the next free games.

Mets Have to Find Offense

It is no secret this Mets team has been an overall disappointment for their fans. This was supposed to be their big year after getting Steve Cohen as their new owner. He was able to add Francisco Lindor to a lineup that should be producing. Unfortunately, averaging 3.29 runs per game is second to last in the entire MLB.

There is not a single player on this team that is having a great offensive season. Pete Alonso has hit 28 home runs this season to go along with his .258 batting average. Outside of Alonso, there is no one else in this lineup producing, and fans are starting to grow impatient with the lack of production. If the Mets, currently seven games out of a wild card spot, are going to make it to the playoffs, they are going to need to turn things around immediately.

Pitching Matchup

Johnny Cueto will take the mound for the Giants tonight. In 19 starts, Cueto is 7-6 with a 3.89 ERA. In his last five starts, Cueto has not given up more than three earned runs. His strikeout to walk ratio in his last five starts is 3:1.

On the hill for the Mets will be Taijuan Walker. He has 28 starts on the year, with a record of 7-8 and an ERA of 3.86. A heavy-handed pitcher, who likes to run his fastball up close to 100 mph, will make for two completely different pitching styles in tonight’s game.

Giants Win

After an 8-0 victory last night, all the momentum is riding in the Giants’ dugout. The confidence you gain beating a team like that usually boils over into the next game. They have won six games this season by six or more runs. In the six games following, they are 4-2.
