Texas Rivals Square Off In Big 12 Contest

The TCU Horned Frogs try to avoid a third straight loss when they face the in-state rival Texas Tech Red Raiders in a Big 12 contest on Saturday. The game is set for a 7 pm ET kickoff at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas.

TCU (2-2, 0-1) has fallen to .500 after starting the season with two straight wins, dropping its second straight with a 32-27 setback to Texas last weekend. The Horned Frogs are facing a Texas-based opponent for the third straight game.

Texas Tech (4-1, 1-1) bounced back from its first loss of the season two weeks ago with a 23-20 victory at West Virginia last weekend. The Red Raiders are 2-0 at home this season.

TCU is a 1.5-point favorite on the road if you’re betting online at the BetUS Sportsbook. BetUS also has the over/under set at 61 points. If you bet on Bovada, you can get the Horned Frogs as two-point favorites, with the over/under set at 60.5 points.

Just Short

The Horned Frogs came up just short against Texas last weekend, failing to get the stop it needed to pull ahead in the second half. The teams traded scores in the second half after the Longhorns had taken a six-point halftime lead.

Three turnovers were costly for TCU, which couldn’t stop the ground game of Texas. Bijan Robinson rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns to help the Longhorns control the ball for over 32 minutes of the game.

Quarterback Max Duggan was solid in the passing game, completing 20-of-28 passes for 182 yards and a score, while Zach Evans had 113 yards on just 15 carries, scoring the game’s first touchdown. Though the Horned Frogs gave up 32 points to Texas, they kept the highest-scoring team in the Big 12 below their season’s average, and well below the 70 points they’d scored against the Red Raiders the previous week.

Major Turnaround

As previously noted, Texas Tech’s defense couldn’t stop the Longhorns, but that was turned around against West Virginia, with the Red Raiders limiting the Mountaineers to just 20 points. A field goal in the final minute proved to be the difference in the road win for Tech.

Quarterback Henry Colombi made his first start for the Red Raiders and finished 23-of-23 for 266 yards. He did take three sacks after being taken down twice when he came off the bench against Texas, but he avoided any interceptions and was efficient in leading the Texas Tech offense.

SaRodorick Thompson got the Red Raiders off to a good start, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter against West Virginia. Texas Tech was up 17-0 at halftime before the Mountaineers rallied to tie the game heading to the fourth. Jonathan Garibay connected on two field goals in the final quarter — including one from 32 yards out with 18 seconds to play — to push Tech to the win.

West Virginia did rack up 424 yards of total offense in the game, but the Red Raiders’ defense held tough, allowing just two touchdowns after giving up nine to the Longhorns the previous week.

TCU Earns Road Win

The Horned Frogs are in need of a win, and they should be able to pull out a close one in this road contest. Texas Tech played well against West Virginia last weekend, but it had trouble holding its lead, and TCU should get off to a better start than the Mountaineers did.

This one will be close, but TCU should be able to cover the point spread no matter which sportsbook you bet on NCAA football at.
